Honestly, underrated channel
i don't know how isles are doing it this early in the season-7 out of 8-despite the big hole lack of a big scorer still on the roster. maybe the long off season rest and not having to go thru three tuff playoff rounds last spring has refreshed isles. as they found out last season it is better to bank as many points as possible early in the season. the offense outside of the 0 in detroit has been good. i don't expect it to continue at that pace and will be sporadic rest of season. d is fine. not having pylons greene/chara and addition of romanov makes it much better than last season. goaltending is among the best. isles just need a more proven scoring threat/sniper type up front to be a playoff threat. should they get there. and caps/pens both are struggling. maybe this is the season when age decline takes one or both out of the playoffs. caps have holes. pens are just shitty on d.
The isles got screwed by Covid last year. Lou's thick headed philosophy of next man up when they lost 7-10 players for multiple games last year put them behind the 8 ball.
Isles fan, agree with everything. I've been very impressed with how players who had a poor season last year are performing much better overall. One example, Matt Martin has 4 points so far when he had 7 in the entirety of last season. I think a lot of it comes down to how well the defense is jumping in on plays – for a while they were leading the league in goals from defensemen, not sure if that's still the case.
My main concern is that they're streaky, both within games and overall. They played great against the Rangers, Hurricanes, and Avalanche, then felt slower against the Blackhawks and Blues and then stalled completely against the Red Wings. They player mediocre-awful hockey against Calgary for two period and then played incredible, and a similar deal with the Rangers (though I'd argue they played better overall than against the Flames). I'm sure Lane Lambert has the same thought but, if you can get this team to play at a consistent high level, they can really be a powerhouse. There's a lot of potential and they have been unlocking a good bit of it, but streakiness and come from behind wins won't carry them forever.
Definitely doing a lot better than I expected given the minimal lineup changes
to be completely fair, i didnt think the isles would start scoring like this until 20 games in 😭😭
I mean they went to back to back conference championships one season ago so I'm not sure how surprising it is. Do you watch hockey? Last year they had five of six defenseman and nearly three forward lines out on COVID protocol for two months which is why they missed the playoffs and they still almost made it. Richard panik was their first line winger with cizikas and clutterbuck. The rest of the lines were minor leaguers. Panik can't even make a roster now and cizikas is their fourth line center
