LES JETS BATTENT LES REFS ET GAGNENT 5-4 EN PROLONGATION (RANT)
Quel embarras pour la LNH. Match de hockey horriblement arbitré. J’espère que vous apprécierez mon mini coup de gueule. Instagram : https://www.instagram.com/jetshubyt/
I get it ya benn got pushed into hellebuyck so like I get anything to do with goalie interference but I don’t understand why the play wasn’t blown down when he’s laying on the ground helmet off like every time I’ve seen a goalie’s helmet fall off or something the plays blown dead immediately I was really surprised to see that goal count not sure why this was any different to any other incident like this
Player safety shouldn't be jeopardized, ever, rules or not. Have they not learnt how wildly those pucks can fly yet? Considering a kid was killed because of a wildly flying puck going over the glass, they should know it's not safe for a puck to be flying in someone's direction that doesn't have something to protect them from said shot. If Helle takes that shot to the head from the puck bouncing there's no doubt a serious injury would occur. Whichever ref that allowed this to happen should be reprimanded for this, no goalie deserves this kind of treatment. Also, thank god for Morrisey, dude is an absolute king for scoring that ot goal.
Yes Jets fan from Alberta here. So a few things. I copied the rules from another commenter on a different youtube game recap where the chat was getting heated. Just a bunch of chaffed Stars fans over there attacking anyone who disagreed with the call tonight. So I will post here instead of fighting monkeys with keyboards. “NHL Rule 9 – Uniforms – 9.6 – Helmets – When a goalkeeper has lost his helmet and/or face mask and his team has control of the puck, the play shall be stopped immediately to allow the goalkeeper the opportunity to regain his helmet and/or face mask.
When the opposing team has control of the puck, play shall only be stopped if there is no immediate and impending scoring opportunity. This stoppage of play must be made by the Referee. When play is stopped because the goalkeeper has lost his helmet and/or face mask, the ensuing face-off shall take place at one of the defending team’s end zone face-off spots.
When a goalkeeper deliberately removes his helmet and/or face mask in order to secure a stoppage of play, the Referee shall stop play as outlined above and in this case assess the goalkeeper a minor penalty for delaying the game. If the goalkeeper deliberately removes his helmet and/or face mask when the opposing team is on a breakaway, the Referee shall award a penalty shot to the nonoffending team, which shot shall be taken by the player last in possession of the puck.”
Ok so rules established.
1. If you look at game replays the contact was just before the 23 second mark, 23 and change but it will be rounded down to 23 for simplicity. The goal was made at 18.5 seconds. That is 4.5 seconds later. Arguably closer to 5 seconds with that change we took off initially from the 23 seconds. That is not immediate which is "occurring or done at once; instant." The opposing player with the puck is not in the moment shooting or about to shoot when the mask is knocked off. This game is fast. It was passed twice and then shot in that time. That play was built after the contact happened. The home team commentator said, "they didn't blow it dead, play continued." The net is wide open, anyone of the Stars players who have a clear shot would make that a goal…or would be mocked for years. "Immediate and impending scoring opportunity" is not the same as "the opposing team had control of the puck in the offensive zone." Impeding is, "of an event regarded as threatening or significant; about to happen; forthcoming." How many times do the players go back and forth during the game without a goal, (I am not even going to try to count that) this is not a guaranteed goal moment or one that is highly likely if Helleybuck is in net with a mask. So why is the play not whistled dead when he doesn't and is laying prone on the ice not moving? 2. My first reaction to the contact was, "oof, that looked like it hurt", to immediately, "oh crap Helleybuck is our most important player and he just got knocked out." Even in replays It looks like there is possibility of a black out moment there for a second or more. A player with contact from another player and the net who doesn't move after is likely injured. 3.This is not Helleybuck taking a dive to save a moment where he is going to get scored on. Pfff he won the Vezina trophy in 2020 he is competent and confident in his skill in the net. The play is going behind the net. There is no scoring chance here. I am emphatically standing behind the concept of injured player. He did not get up or move after the goal was made. He did not get up for a long time afterwards. They had minutes as the "Situation Room" was reviewing the play. On the flipside the Stars goalie had the whistle blown for the play to be whistled dead for his pad coming loose. I don't remember who had possession, but either way it was not an immediate and impending scoring opportunity either. 4. Ok. Let's say I am just being biased because I am a Jets fan, and the rules are rules and it was the correct way to call it. You're telling me that the NHL expects the most important player on any team (This is the goalie) to get up after losing their helmet and face an oncoming puck with the full intent and knowledge that they may be stopping this puck from entering the net with their face??? Are you kidding me??? Rules may be rules but this one has to go. This concept is bad at all levels of this game. I get it if the opposing player is in the process of shooting the puck within a second of the mask falling off which is close to the term immediate, yeah call that a goal. But for multiple seconds? For a forward or defenseman to not wear protective equipment beyond the helmet and mouth guard or chew toy depending on the player is one thing as the puck is rarely coming for their head. But the goalie? How many players after getting hit in the face are all gauzed up and half drugged up on pain killers with the face mask head gear. Then when an opposing player grabs that head gear to get them rattled gets into a fight with a protective team member over grabbing that face gear. That's a forward, you have 12 on the bench. Oh sorry I didn't know the positions the players on your team play, he was a defenseman, there are still 6 or 7. There is a backup goalie, but usually only two goalies total ON THE WHOLE TEAM. The goalie can't leave and get gauzed up and be on pain killers and come back to play, once he is injured and replaced that is it for the night. A forward or defenseman who feels up to playing again can. This is an issue. If tonight meant a loss instead of Helleybuck being out for a while with needing dental surgery or worse then so be it, I would much rather take a loss. But this shouldn't even need to be considered.
If you remember in the cup final, Darcy Kuemper took a puck to the mask breaking the clasps on the straps of his helmet which would fall off immediately afterward.
Tampa would collect the rebound out of the scrum in the crease and shoot (narrowly missing kuempers face as he tried to make the save even so) scoring a goal and taking the lead in the game, which they would go on to win.
This was a massive discussion back then. And it still is now. Craig Button said on TSN following the game “hellebuyck was down covering his head, there was no immediate danger for him, this is the reason it was called a good goal.”
Looking back at the cup final situation, that point is irrelevant. Even when the goalie risks his health and face to make a stop with his mask off, they still counted the goal.
This rule needs to change, I don’t understand how the play is not blown dead when a goalie loses his mask in any way. Doesn’t matter who pushed who. For the safety of goaltenders, this needs to be addressed.
I mean for god sakes, if a skater loses their helmet during a shift, they either have to put it back on instantly (which results in a loss of opportunity or an odd man rush the opposite way) or skate off to the bench to not take a penalty! It makes 0 sense.
We’re lucky Bucky is okay, and I’m stoked winnipeg got the win. But the refs and league literally gifted our division rivals with a free point, which could’ve been 2 had Jo Mo not backpacked the team in OT yet again.
doesn't surprise me, the NHL is to worried about being politically correct, they forget theres a game going on? They make sure to call a transgender a woman, that to them means more than a freakin hockey game? I am a Huge follower of the Jets from 1978 till now, I've lost my passion for this game. Thanks NHL
If the excat play would have happened to Ottenger losing his helmet it would be no goal without question. Also look who it was creaming Hellybuck in the head.choir boy Jamie Benn.
I love how people say the nhl should look at this goal. Back in 2019 vgk vs sharks game 7 the nhl has to call it so any goal challenges or major in the last 5 minutes of the game is actually from the nhl. If the defender did not hit benn then it would not be a goal. It's not the refs fault for that nor dallas. You can be mad at the goal but it happenes. Also if any equipment falls of they usually call it but demko did not get a break when he lost his blocker
I believe in this case player safety comes first and it should have been blown dead but the Jets should have to take a penalty for intentional delay of game or Dallas be given a penalty shot otherwise players will just abuse it all the time.

I see Stars fans on Twitter defending the refs yet if it was the other way around they'd be mad
Thanks for your video’s man! Keep it up !

That would never happen if it is the Stars vs Leafs.

300 iq play by morrisey to get the game into ot to pump up those numbers for the norris
Did the refs expect Hellebuyck to get back up and save the shot from robertson without a helmet ? Then they give Shiefele a 5 MINUTE MAJOR?
