Obviously he wanted out because money was not the issue. I appreciate his Mets career and wished we could finally keep a major pitcher for his entire career, but it is what it is

As much as I like Verlander and love my Mets we don't need a 40yr old ace followed by a 38yr old Sherzer, they need to get that lefty from the Giants and move on…thanx Degrom for all the highlights when healthy ur THE BEST pitcher in the game period 👍

I like Degrom. He is a great pitcher who needs to stay healthy in order to pitch an entire season. Hope the deal pays off for the Texas Rangers. Excellent information in this video.
No state tax in Texas — so it came down to money not winning — i think its best for the Mets – deGrom is always injured plays a couple of months and he was not lights out in the playoffs – way too injury prone – Mets have to build to win now and the future — the Rangers are not even close to winning anything and they are nuts to give deGrom 5 years and all that money – a dumb move – happy he did not go to a team that truly competes with the Mets or Yankees

The Rangers have a history of horrid contracts. This one is $37M a year for a broken down pitcher that can't stay healthy and will be 35 this season. Even if he goes 35-0 with 35 complete games, they aren't competing because they still don't have a team.
deGrom did us a favour, now we have money to spend on a quantity of players and restock our depth.
The end of the Fantastic Five. Mets have gone through talented pitchers like no other franchise. Once upon a time in the 90’s Wilson, Pulsipher, and Izzy. And now Dark Knight, Thor, Matz, DeGrom, Wheeler.
I don’t think a franchise like the Mets will have much trouble finding pitchers .But will they finally bring them in when the hitting is around.
That's not breaking news we been knew he's a Country boy, n Texas right up his alley. He did great we did poorly behind him. Seen him lose games 2-1, 1-0, that's crazy… Many of those.
We have options and we are use to the best players moving on. Only a few stay on.

I’m sorry to see Jacob deGrom leave the Mets for the Texas Rangers. But, at least, he didn’t sign with the Atlanta Braves.

So, Jacob deGrom joins the ranks of Mets players, we hated to see leave New York: Tom Seaver, Nolan Ryan, Jerry Koosman, Jose Reyes and Vince Coleman (just kidding!).

I love deGrom, and he was a great pitcher for a long time. The problem is durability for him. 5 years is a long time for him. Also the Mets did pretty well last year, despite not having him for most of the time.
I can spin this so many ways but I’ll just say this, this is why this team should have went for it at the trade deadline in 2021 when you have a chance to a win a World Series like the Mets did you go all in. There’s no guarantee next season. All in all it’s not all doom and gloom. Baseball isn’t a 1 man sport. This is money now where Mets can sign 2 top guys now.
I understand degrom was supposed to retire a Met. This is something that doesn’t happen to other teams. Top players don’t leave top franchises like this. We will see what the future holds now though.

Now it’s almost 100% we’ll get either Verlander or Rodon, but not both since Nimmo is likely coming back now. For that 2nd signing, I’d be open to a Syndergaard reunion. His stock and thus his price has dropped significantly but he’s still a legitimate #3 starter. 2 years $40 million with an option for a 3rd year at another. Verlander/Scherzer/Syndergaard/Carasco and have MeGill and Peterson battle for a 5th spot (we need at least one pitcher south of 30 years old). I’d also issue Conforto a qualifying offer, 1 year $18 mail with a 2nd year option. You might think we’re moving backwards but what if we had Conforto (a legit 30 HR threat) instead of a platoon between Vogelbach, Ruf and Naquin. We probably win at least 1 more game and win the division. As far as sour grapes between Noah and the Mets, New York is a forgiving city if you produce. Guillermo Mota pitched for us FFS.

I don't think the Mets would have been "crazy" to offer this as Andy says. If he is elite Jake for 3 of the 5 years this contract is a steal. He was also our franchise guy .

A real team player here who's a fragile pitch count prima donna that cant get past 6 innings if that. Texas better have a deep bullpen for every game is able to start. What good are pretty stats when you can't pitch more than half a season.

This was then and til yesterday inevitable. If the Mets don't pivot immediately to what should have been plan A-2 ; then undoubtedly Eppler needs to go. It seems as if DeGrom was dictating the Mets direction. That's when you know there's no plan . It was DeGrom then all other else. Really BAD look AGAIN Billy !
