@Golden Knights de Vegas

  1. Clean hit, no penalty. If the Vegas player had gone in there with intent that sabre would not have gotten up. Deffo a highlight hit its so good to watch.

  2. I don't think any of these hits are dirty. I still think the responsibility should be on the player being checked to not turn their back to the play. Everyone admits the game is much faster now, making that much harder for the checking player to let up. It's ridiculous

  3. Definitely boarding, you can observe the sin city player as he does not let up and drives his shoulder up between the shoulders and head of Mr. Lybushkin to drive his face into the dasher boards, too zealous

we were taught that the dasher boards are our friends and to play tight against the dasher boards to minimize the hit/check

Mini rivalry? good 1, beating the Knights is all the Tage here along the Lake

  4. Watching this live was crazy. I never saw someone fly like that and then played the rest of the game

  5. As a defenseman, both are at fault here. Yes, he definitely tried to do the thing that you would do if you were not Cale Makar, but c'mon, you can't show your back to a forechecker when he obviously showed he's gonna hit you. But for the forechecker, don't hit from behind.

  6. His numbers were showing the entire time. There was no, 'he turned at the last second' or last "milisecond". You are talking as if the leading player deciding to stop as if it were a choice…. as opposed to what? Skating full-stride face-first into the boards? How are you shocked that the leading player is going to slow or stop before the boards? Part of the problem is automatic icing. Clubs don't run icing touch up drills like they used to.

  7. I'm a Sabres fan…. so I'm bias. However, my non-bias opinion is still boarding. Unfortunately that's just how the speed of the game is today. He showed perfect examples of other plays towards the end of the video. Those were also all boarding calls.

  8. 100% yes dirty..they need to add a checking from behind into the boards penalty in the nhl and will help prevent many of these.

  9. As a Sabres fan, I was fired up when I saw this hit. He could have broken his freaking neck. But you make a good point about split second decisions, and I just can’t really be mad anymore. Hopefully this is just a one-off play and we don’t see this in the future. Good game Golden Knights, as always! 🤝

  10. It was UN NECESSARY ,,, to contain the player and get the puck from him,,, doesnot require a hit to the back of the head by a shoulder …..Until the NHL clamps down on this stuff… it will continue to happen!

  11. Its not a dirty hit. Its like flicking the bottom of a slinky as its coming off the ground. It already had a lot of forward momentum and the players weight was up and straight compared to leaning back and low.

  12. I don't think it was a dirty play, but easily it's going to get called a penalty every time, because the refs don't have slo-mo replay.

The biggest thing I give credit to Kolesar for is that he did see the numbers and ended up making the point of contact be hip on hip. He tried not to board him from behind and that's why he ends up his back on the glass. Had he not been trying to avoid a hit from behind, it probably would have resulted in something similar to the Landeskog example in the video.

  13. Dirty? No. Penalty? Yes.

The Vegas player should have let up but then if he lets up too much and that allows the Buffalo player to clear the puck then people would be saying it was a soft play by the Vegas player. It's a hard choice in a fast game.

  14. players have a responsibility to keep themselves safe. why didn’t he hug the board and absorb the hit? you can’t be turning you back at the last second and expect to not get hit.

  15. The thing is, it's not a split second decision. As a trailing player, you know the guy ahead of you is going to stop (or at least drastically slow down) because the boards are there. It's not open ice. If you are behind someone going into the boards, you have to stop or choose a side. You can't skate through a body.

  16. You must be a vegas fan huh? He saw numbers the whole way. He did not shift his body position by many degrees at all. Sure, he slightly turned, but not enough to make this not dirty. In real time, he was going to hit him in the numbers the entire way. Bad hit.

  17. On this particular play they r never shoulder to shoulder…his #s r to him the entire time they r gliding into the boards…altho this looked a lot worse than it actually was, he shouldn’t have thrown the hit, was seeing #s for the entire glide towards the boards…

  18. Not dirty at all.

If you throw in a last minute juke 12 inches from the boards with a forechecker a hair away from you, then you will absolutely get tagged.

It is essentially manufacturing a boarding penalty.

No different than intentionally stepping on an opponent's stick mid stride is fabricating a tripping penalty.

It is not dirty… it is just part of the game.
If he completely slips the check, he looks like a genius, but it is high risk, low reward.

  19. This happens in less than a split second….if Kolesar 'eases up' he gets dressed down in during the team's video replay session. I don't think it's dirty – look at Kolesar's skate positioning, he's wide and keeps his line and stays on his feet (doesn't jump). Lyubushkin almost turns back into him. It's amazing at the speed and size of these guys crazy stuff like this doesn't happen more often tbh. Sharp skate fly's by your face and hits the shield… omg….Glad he wasn't seriously injured.

  20. When the hit comes in the corner it is hard for D to adjust. NHL only calls hit from behind if it squre to the boards. 1:04…pause it the hit is on the numbers! The reason you get the spin is he was targeting the back of the knee to pin him but got the hip.

  21. I dont think the hit is dirty. A penalty yes.. Dirty No. Game speed has to be taken into consideration.

  22. It wasn't a dirty hit but it was a hit from behind, idk how he flew like that but shit happens
