Game 36: Result 3 – 6. Interesting!
Actually none of the stuff you described had any effect on the winning goal. The key on the play was that after dumpiing the puck along the boards, Reilly goes and gets completely taken out of the play by pinching on the boards when he should have been defending. Never saw what the Leafs seem to see in this guy. He has no sense of positional play. He just runs all over the ice, and usually it is the wrong place at the right time. A small amount of offensive ability does not counteract the massive defensive liability this guy is.

There is a simple solution to the travel issue. The league schedulers need to provide 24 hour unschedulable buffer period on either side of the blackout period…meaning that no games can be scheduled for the 23rd or 27th of December.
Steve if it makes you feel any better the half of Boston's losses this season have come to Ottawa or Arizona.
The Leafs play down to their opponents still and when it comes time for the playoffs whomever they face in the first round will figure out how to beat them and take the series
I hate when eastern conference fans complain about travel time.
The Western Conference spans 3 time zones. Eastern conference spans one time zone. The western conference has way more travel time between time zones in the same conference. Frig off, Eastern fans. All your teams are in the same time zone. Every single one. Frig off.

Dude, the thing with Rielly is that he always does that. So maybe this time it was a bit of bad luck (or a bad pass by Lily, whatever). But Rielly is always caught in the o-zone or the neutral zone, leaving his partner in an ocean of shit. It's not rust, it's just what he does. The Leafs absolutely were better without him.
Lililiagren should never play in a close game defensively, they put up points, but they put up minuses.

As a former goalie, I always told my teammates, “take the pass away”. As a goalie, i really can only control one thing in a 2-1, and that’s the shot from the player. As a player on the ice, you COULD feasibly deal with a shot, sure, but you also can block a pass. Plus, you’re in a better position to fight a pass than I am, and I am in a better spot to fight the shot. It doesn’t make a ton of sense to deal with what we can handle best imho
Lililiagren should have tried to block the pass on the two on one.

Liljegren made a poor pass but Morgan saw the pass coming and LET it hit his skate instead of simply doing what most do and attempt to adjust the stick. He goes on to fumble the puck and makes a panic giveaway.

Arizona has replaced Buffalo as the team that goes to full military power against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Leafs were too cavalier overall for this game. This game was a coaching failure on Toronto’s part.
I dont want to hear any talk about our goalies after such a loss and how our skaters defended.
About the flight thing that I think should give context. The Bruins had to fly 2 times in 2 days for 2 games, on a back-to-back situation.
I don't bring this up because of what team it was (it could have been the Sharks for what it's worth), but I bring it up to give context as to how the rest of the league handled playing on the 27th and because the CBA is very clear about what they can and can't do. What the Leafs did was incredibly irresponsible and I really hope the NHL stiffens the penalty, in case another team even thinks of doing the same thing. It could legitimately give an unfair advantage to a team who breaks the rules and thinks that all they have to do is pay a fine.
The NHL shouldn't schedule games that require so much traveling immediately after the holidays

I am noticing a trend (?) of teams pulling the goalie with too many minutes to spare. Maybe we, Habs and Leafs and others should just play 6 on 6. The little man in NYC would be happy I am sure. That rule is stupid, I've traveled out West, you have Jetlag, your sleep is off, so you feel tired, you'll be a little off your game if you have a night there to sleep, but you arrive the day of? It screws everything up.

Here's a thought: When Sandin comes back from injury, why don't we try moving Rielly up to LW with Marner and Tavares? That way, we don't have to sell the farm to get a high-end 2LW and can focus on depth forwards and/or an upgrade to 2RD.
Matthews was a ghost yet again…..he's simply just not scoring….. Not sure what's wrong with him….he could have won this game himself if he can find a way to ACTUALLY MAKE GOOD ON HIS SHOTS 🙄
