Philp is definitely in need of a cup of coffee in the NHL this season. However we have Justin bailey who would stick up for Mcdavid and since Barrie is day to day. Call up Desharnais he is a cycle breaker and a Mcdavid defender. Give him a cup of coffee too
This is controversial but the Oilers could hire "Jack Campbell whisperer" Dusty Imoo strickly just to work with jack Campbell and no other as Schwartz and Skinner have worked extremely well together. And keep Sylvian Rodrigue to keep up his great work with his son in Bakersfield.
Is Jakob Chychrun a good d.man, yeah but he's injury prone. And to give up three first round picks you might as well say if far to much to give up. Give up our first round pick when next year's crop is supposed to be extremely deep is a huge mistake. If we could get Jakob Chychrun for a second round and J. Puljujarvi. I think that's fair. If not then no.
You get the best goalie rookie you’ve seen in a long time. Been in development under one G coach. We all are super impressed with his fundamentals and modern techniques they teach now and you’d consider getting rid of his Stu’s coach? Horrible take.
Mike: Stu is amazing. He’s been in development since 2017 here. Campbell who just got here fell off though. So fire Stu’s coach. 😂
Get Jack what he needs sure. Leave Stu’s shit alone.
8-9 years btw is what I’m finding Schwartz has been with the Oilers. Depending on the site. Both sites though had him at only 4 of those years full time.
Smith is a bad choice for Goaltending coach. He becomes emotionally involved which makes him a great goalie, but a bad coach.
Look at the great GMs and Coaches. Sure there are exceptions as always, but the majority are cool and calm focused individuals that the team draws strength from under tremendous pressure.
Coaches: Trotz, Quenville, Bowman, Sutter, etc.
GMs: Bowman, Polle, Yzerman, Sakic, etc Ps. I know those last 2 don't hold records but they win and are winning right away as 'young' GMs.
All these people and many more are all universally calm and cool headed. A goalie coach needs to be absolutely glacial as goalies have even more pressure on themselves and that support needs to start from the top.
So I'm sorry for the long thought, but I wanted to share a larger thought with some degree of clarity.
So no to Smith for that reason and I have others that I won't go into. He'd be a great team advisor though, so I don't think just because I'm against this one role that he can't fill others.
Philip is from the Prairie provinces here in Canmore Alberta. All kids that grow up playing hockey outside the cities are generally tough. I used to referee in Calgary and had friends freelance in the country side and they always talked about how intense everything was from fans threatening them to players wanting to kill each other or the referees. Philip grew up with that, so I have no doubt he can fight as it's necessary to survive. Just sharing some colour to Pat's comments.
The Oiler defense, in general, has trouble making "quick enough" passes and plays to get out of their zone. If they end up trading for only a defenseman who can lay the physicality on opponents and punish them, then they will still be neglecting the fact that their defensive corp is easily defeated by intense forechecking. There is a bigger problem here, and Chychrun would be as much of a partial solution to this problem as would a big, rugged defenseman. … And, btw, my comments here have nothing to do with the fact that the team did not step up to defend McDavid after the egregious knee on knee hit in Calgary.
On another topic, the knee on knee hit on McDavid and the intent to injure hit on Draisaitl in Calgary only make the non-confrontational play of Puljujaarvi even more of a problem. The Oilers have few enough physical players as it is, and when players who could deter things like happened in Calgary don't play confrontationally, then it is glaringly obvious that the forward corp is weak in this area … and when Kane returns, he won't be fighting or threatening anyone with a wrist that was recently seriously injured.
Manson's son was the right guy and we didn't get him last year. I think it was because father and son didn't want to play together. Not a negative thing, just lots of people don't want to be under their parents thumb and vise versa. Sad that was a miss for us.
Toews would be my fav forward for a deadline trade. Really great character element that Keith brought from a winning franchise. There is a lot to like from having Toews that makes him way way better than any other forward
Look, re: Chyrchrun WE DON'T NEED ANOTHER OFFENSIVE DEFENSEMAN. We need a DEFENSIVE DEFENSEMAN. Our Defense is a sieve (that ranges to smoke). He's NOT THE ONE. Do the math, sorry but it ticks me off he's NOT what we need allowing for numbers. Just get over it.
Smith is ok… GM got him to say he is injured & owner to pay him to free up CapSpace so he could get Campbell). Smith was .915 save% & 2.81 last yr. Won all 9 games in April with Ave <2… & played all16 Playoff Games in May & June.. wins until Colorado.. A bit sad as he was a leader for the team – age discrimination but GM has secured Campbell for 5 years.
Agree that Nurse should become a winger. Defence look confused and zero confidence. The hit on McD and the cheap cross check into the flames bench on Drai should have been answered. No excuse for lack of intestinal fortitude by at least one player. Bring up Philip and give him a shot. The team needs a defenceman that can clear the front of the net and make you nervous to be there.
Xavier should be a non starter on the trades. Bottom line is ,something has to be done . Too many along for the ride . Like the Kane addition last year the team needs motivators. Also glaring how much Keith and Rusty are missed on the blue line.
Campbell is not an NHL goaltender. I’d like to ad “right now” to that statement. But I will be shocked if that guy ever finds a level of consistency better than Koskinen.
Are you kidding me! Sell the farm to get a guy who has only played 60 games twice in his whole career???? No thanks, he WILL be hurt when you need him most and then we will be missing multiple draft picks and probably Bouchard or Broberg. Chychrun = kryptonite. Injured players are useless.

Let's Go Oilers
I think we can live without Barrie for a couple games but we need draisaitl 😫
Chychrun is worth the cost and worth the risk
I agree fully about Dustin Schwartz
Good Job on the Video!

Please do move on from Schwartz. He has ruined so many Oilers goalies. Hire Smith to replace him.
Chyrchrun would be good, but all our eggs in 1 basket with that.. But the contract would help going forward.
We could also spend about the same assets and come away with something like Gavrikov + Nyquist and someone like Horvat/Tarasenko/Kane

Patrick love your video’s but please your better off alone and not having someone there that keeps cutting you off!
Knew Skinner was our #1 goalie n then we went out and signed crapbell.
Stanley Cup caliber teams have D… We have a kneegrow on his knees all game
We need a d man who isn't on his knees all game blowing off the other team

Oilers are done for this season Jay don't no how to coach bring back mike Smith
If nurse didn’t have a nmc I’d say trade him to Ottawa for Chabot but that’s not gonna be happening any time soon 😢

Kulak statically has regressed the most I believe.

Well I would like to see pulijarvi Benson and Murray to Chicago for lafarty and draft picks. Get the ball rolling
Glad Mike joined you today Patrick. I appreciate his insights and passion.
Of the Dmen to trade for onlu Gavrikov makes any sense. Edmunson is just a simple overpay, but Chychurn is a totally unworkable deal.
I agree about cutting Darnell’s minutes …he plays far to many but he is our best defenseman and I guess that’s why!
I really like domi!
Great video guys, loved hearing from Mike. Keep up the good work gentlemen.👍

Skinner is absolutely great, he’s the future
What's up with Ken Holland getting Jimmy Howard ?????? I don't understand this pick????
Use Lavoie in a trade if we are talking Edmundson but definitely not Xaviar….
