Oh!
Comeback Kids becoming all too frequent
Fun game! Happy New Year gents!
Elmer with another goal, really wicked shot and soft hands. Thomas Chabot was foiled as he thought he can rub Elmer out along the boards. Instead Soderblom just turns and keeps his skates moving and gets deep into the zone for an eventual one timer. Ras also is putting together another solid season. Veleno is shaping up too.
Thoughts????? Lets talk Suter, this off-season will we let him go or resign him for cheap if we can? Or try to trade him at the deadline? Or has Berggren took his spot for next year?
I really don't have much of an issue with any of our defensemen. I still don't buy the idea that Seider and Chiarot can't work. The only evidence in this narrative is stats, but we all know plus/minus is stupid and I'd expect the advanced stats on a bad team (which is what the Wings look like lately) to be worse for a top pair of defensemen. At the end of the day, Moritz Seider is a skilled professional hockey player. I don't think there's anything Ben Chiarot can do in the natural flow of play that will scramble his brain and make him incapable of playing defense with the guy. I mean, that's why he looked the same with Walman. Nothing crazy happened. He didn't gain any new abilities. He played the same solid game he's been playing lately. Same with Chiarot with Hronek. He lead the team in TOI, so do we even have a top pair?
I think our forwards are the bigger issue whenever we have defensive zone issues. So many turnovers seem to come from them. Plenty from the D, sure, but I often feel like they have no good options for a breakout pass. So much of it is just thrown around the boards, where it's easy to pressure. I feel like the forwards just aren't giving enough support or getting into good enough positions to make the D's job easier. I think a lot of our issues are team wide issues, not issues with individuals.
That ties into goaltending as well. Ned's last start was that abomination against Florida. Looked like an AHL team in front of him. Lalonde said he wasn't the issue in that game. So why has he not gotten a start since? I know he's let in some bad goals. He's also made great saves just like Husso and Hellberg. There aren't really BAD goalies in the NHL. The best ones are always on good teams. I don't think Ned has been given a fair chance to earn his job back. At the end of the day, I don't really care who the backup is as long as he performs, but I see no reason to gamble on Hellberg. He looks kinda shaky out there. Almost gave up a goal in the final 10 seconds because he was slow getting back into the net and slid too far. We have to move one of them, so why have we not given Ned more opportunities to make it clear who should go?
Not hating on Ned, but I think with his salary he would clear waivers and get him playing time in G.R. ? Also, I think Erne would be a potential trade piece for a playoff contender looking to bolster their 4th line. If Berggren gets sent down , I think it's only until trade deadline and he's back up.
He’s almost filling in for Bertuzzi on that top line
Hey guys
First time watching. Life time red wings fan. I'll sub and try to keep up with you.
Mixed feelings lately on the wings. Super exciting comebacks. That being said I am really hoping for playoffs this year. They've got to up their game for the second half.
The list of exciting players in the roster moving forward is super sick. Too many names to list.
Let's cheer for a playoff spot! And continued development of our young guys. High hopes for Sébastien Cossa.
Do we need a 50/60 goal scorer? Or do we need 9 30 to 40 goal scores? 🤔 I don't want to sign a couple super stars and be hand cuffed by a cap problem?
Happy happy New Years boyz ! 🥂✌🏾❤️😊🎩
Gonna be lots to talk about over the next few weeks boys!!
The looming difficult roster decisions, the fact that all 3 waiver exempt players have played well and deserve to stay. Carrying 3 goalies.
Hot take and predictions, the red wings will trade a forward before the end of January, and ned has played his last game in the winged wheel.
Big rass has the best celly of anyone on the team. The one knee fist pump at his size his awesome. Factor in his stoic nature vs the emotion he let's out when he burries one.
Its awesome.
Rasmussen could also be viewed as a very valuable trade piece.
