Good take by jj on why warriors beat mavs in the conference finals. Warriors were a bad matchup for them all year. I felt comfortable if they would have faced memphis, who they beat multiple times in the season, with their style of play. Warriors were just the worst match up for them. Even vs Boston last year I felt mavs would have beat them. This year Boston is much tougher.

Luka just needs a great defensive team around him and a handful of guys that can pop off… he doesn't need a #2 IMO. If the Mavs were top 5 in defense they would be unstoppable.
Still think Luka is best suited to play with a team of (elite) role players instead of with another star but he has been amazing.
Give him M.Turner+B.Hield+Covington=Title … or at least give him a M.Bamba+M.Beasley+Anunoby and Luka will go to the Finals..

imagine if luka joined donovan mitchell and demar derozan. and then klay thompson joined them. thats basically what lebron did back in miami. i think they would be a pretty good team.
Luka is high volume. Luka should be surrounded by shooters as he currently is. Getting another star player would only highlight things he doesn’t do well.
The whole second star thing. I dont get why they didnt give the Kristaps thing more time to develop. I feel like there was some weird potential still there even though it didnt work the way people wanted it to.

2 things:
1. The VA Tech story is cool, bc we saw it in Cleveland with Donovan the other night. Same thing really. Right side of the block rushed the paint, Mitchell missed right, then dove in to the space created by the guy on the block.
2. The Luka "joy" narrative is a bit.. off imo. Like yeah there are moments of that joy.. but I'd also say he plays with a dickishness a lot. And he plays with anger a lot too. I feel like I see more visible anger from Luka that I see from the vaaaaaaaaaast majority of players. Not that it's a bad thing necessarily.. but laundering the whole thing behind this "joy" narrative bc when he does smile, he smiles big.. nahhh.. he plays very angry too.

Sure the stats are impressive but I think he is a losing player. I don’t know if this will stay this way but I cannot see him making it to the championship unless he has a stellar team around him.
Mavs need a two way player who can hold the line while create his own offence.
