As far as I understand it, the Refs are "in play". They do their best to stay out of the way, but it is up to the players to avoid the refs and not shoot the puck at them. Ultimately it is the player's responsibility. Unless the ref actively tries to become part of the play there is no fault on the ref.
Post, crossbar, stanchion, loose board, chip in the ice, linesman and ref are all the same when it comes to obstacles and the bounces they create.
The avs player has terrible spacial awareness.
The ref looks like Jake gyllenhal playing a veteran turned nhl ref
Ah, it's one goal.
refs stood there before the shot, got hit.
With nothing but a helmet and shin pads, refs do everything possible to avoid getting hit cause IT HURTS. Wish I had a buck for everytime I was whacked on a faceoff but we do our best to drop it fair and get outta the way
This never bothered me as a ref.
We are part of the playing area, we are trained to position ourselves in the best place to see the play and not interfere with it, and it's up to the players to avoid us.
The only bad feeling I would have is from the pain of the puck hitting me.
Thanks Ref!! So happy that Canucks won, Kuzmenko is beauty.
I always felt that when refs assist a goal then the goal shouldn't count. Mainly because I'm a Canes fan and it happened a lot to us last year
Ref are in play unless the puck goes off a ref and directly into the net. To my knowledge that is the exception
part of the game. it sucks but it is something that happens a few times a season.
Avs fan here: it's fine it sucks but the Avs have just been in a streak of bad luck this season… Nearly every game someone's injured, the ref is fine he's just doing his job. As an Avalanche fan this season I've learned how to say "that's tuff" and move on.
This cost the Sabres earlier in the season. It’s up to the team to move past an unfortunate goal. That’s 100% on the Avs, just like it was 100% on the Sabres.
a hockey player’s awareness includes the refs… it’s no different than a Canucks player stopping that puck from leaving the zone.
Not as bad as the Pens blowing that lead with Detroit.
refs are in play. why feel awful? its no different in any other sport………not that exciting of a play.
big comeback by vancouver though
There are a lot of square feet out there, the ref takes up maybe 2 Sq ft. Not his fault the guy shot it up his butt.
It's the players' responsibility to avoid contact with the officials. This includes where their shots are going. I like to rag on the refs for bad calls or bad positioning like anyone else but this wasn't one of those times. Where was he supposed to be, out on open ice? That's not an uncommon place for him to be at all. Players need to be aware of that. Treat officials like moving parts of the boards; walls if you want to.
He wasn't even looking at the puck. He turned towards the boards, which is taught as what NOT to do. Move away from the boards during a man advantage. Simple stuff, he messed up big time
Eventually it was determined that it wasn’t Steve Bartman’s fault that the Cubs allowed eight runs against the Marlins.
really? a video about a puck bouncing off an official? its like this is the first time you've watched hockey and made a video of this…yawn
100% on the Av player. Refs are considered part of the game. He is almost always there when they're battling on that part of the ice. At NHL skill level you can be expected to clear it while avoiding the ref.
As a ref for 4 years, I've gotta tell you worse feeling ever.
Maybe don’t shoot the puck right at the ref. Dude would have had literally every other square inch of the ice to shoot it out. Refs are part of the game
I'm more pissed about the bullshit calls and missed calls than this. The refs have been shit to the Avs this year.
so many refs for such a small playing surface. I wonder if the game might be better served with only 2 refs on ice, linesmen watching from the stands, and the eye in the sky to watch it all
this is jokessss
This ref cost the Canucks Connor Bedard.
4 quick goals they scored the first innthe 2nd . Last goal was scored in the third with goalie pulled
