My teacher literally HATES mascots and I don’t get why😂😂😂
Whoa, we should have met up there (or maybe we did without me knowing!) Anyway, Stanley made my 1st ever Mascot Showdown event a very magical experience and you as his former performer were in parts responsible for it, as it was relayed to me. THANK YOU!
To explain what happened, please let me copy paste the letter I've sent to the Panthers a few days ago (hope it reached Stanley!):
Dear Stanley C. Panther,
I am writing to you to let you know about my magical moments that I’ve got to experience during this year’s NHL All-Star Weekend.
I came all the way from Switzerland to see the NHL mascots – and especially YOU, South Florida’s Coolest Cat – Stanley C. Panther. First, let me explain as to why you have has such a special place in my heart:
You have made a big difference with me and helped me smile during a difficult period of my life. I was born in 1984 with a birth defect that was officially diagnosed as Congenital Varicella Syndrome. Among other impairments, it causes me to rely to 100% on a feeding tube. Up until 2014, late effects caused me to be bedridden for up to 150 days per years.
You, Stanley, were the very first mascot I've ever met, back in November 2006 in a totally random, unplanned encounter at a Panthers home game while I was on vacation here.
I knew nothing about mascots and didn't even care about or expect a mascot would be present. Mascotting isn't big at all in my home country of Switzerland. I was just there to attend my first-ever NHL game. Yet I happened to be at the right place at the right moment for a mascot encounter: You had noticed me, posed with me for photos and we shared some hugs. Little did I know back then that this little moment would have a lasting impact on my life as I began to research about mascots and found out what they do in the community.
I fell in love with what I saw! From visiting children’s hospitals, schools and attending birthday parties, seeing photos and videos of your appearances made my heart melt and made me a HUGE fan of you! If we only had something like it at my place! Way too often, my bed was a hospital bed, but there weren’t any mascots visiting. And Stanley lived a 10 hours flight away on another continent…
As my health began to improve, I had the privilege to attend more Panthers home games over the years between 2006-2017 and at almost every game, I would meet my beloved mascot again and noticed, how it cared about me and always made sure I’ve got my photo taken – and he even autographed some of my jerseys!
Fast-forward to 2023 and one pandemic later, I had learned that the person responsible for bringing Stanley C. Panther to life was no longer the same like pre-pandemic. So that meant I'd have to build up the "relationship" again from the ground up. That was at least what I was thinking – but you proved me wrong during the All-Star Weekend!
I told my story about how Stanley C. Panther made a big, positive impact to my troubled life and that I came all the way from Switzerland to see him and his NHL mascot friends to event staff at Fort Lauderdale Beach. This seemed to deeply move everyone and as I posted on social media about it, I had received messages from a person, who was apparently working closely with you and what they relayed to me directly from you seriously, REALLY made me cry a few happy tears!
You had already learned about my story! You already knew why your mascot character means so much to me and that you have a very special, big fan in Switzerland since 2006. You seemed to be very touched by this and I think that was the reason why you have gone great lengths to make sure magical moments were made possible this weekend.
After Friday's brutally hot Mascot Showdown games, all mascots understandably received the order not to stop to interact with fans as they left the rink to get their well-deserved cooling break. All of them – except you, Stanley! Already before the games started, I was lead to the backstage area of the rink, where I got REALLY close to all of the participating mascots. I was as allowed to shoot video from there – and occasionally got to high-five one of these fuzzy critters. You posed for photos with me before & after the game! When you lost Musical Chairs to the Seattle Kraken’s Buoy, he was close enough to me so I could comfort you – and you gestured accordingly to tell me you understood and appreciate it. That was so cool for me, getting to be so close to YOU and all your mascot friends from around the NHL! It was relayed to me that you LOVED to interact with "the guy who had the big plush of me". Did you know my 22” plush of you is from the 1993 inaugural season and the largest toy of you ever made? It’s like having my very own version of you to take wherever I go and to spend comfort at night!
What deeply moved me was that you, Stanley, even tried to get me into Sunday morning's mascot breakfast at FLA Live Arena. While unfortunately unsuccessful as it was a closed event for Panthers season ticket holders, corporate and media only, you tried at least! You really went the extra mile to make sure I would have a special time around you and that made me feel so happy, knowing that my favorite mascot continues to deeply care about me, just like you had since 2006. You really do make a big difference in my life!
The only negative was the inclement weather on Saturday that had all the fun mascot events cancelled that were planned for this day to which I was so looking forward. I found it disappointing that there didn’t seem to be a plan B in place to move the mascots to an indoor place so fans could meet them there in a safe environment. I made it to the actual All-Star game and was glad that I would run into you again on the lower level concourse during 1st intermission, where you would again pose for a photo with me really quick! You really got mobbed there, but thank you so much for braving the crowds so I could get a chance to see you that day.
I plan to continue making the long way from Europe at least once a year to attend further Panthers games and Mascot Showdown events over the next few years. I always think that the best moments are yet ahead of me and I am certain that you, Stanley, will remember me and I’m sure that we will make magical memories in the future.
You still perform like I had learned to love you almost two decades ago: Here to spread magic to those who need it most, for kids and for special needs persons. Here to care about people who weren’t always on the sunny side of life. That's the essence of being a good, lovable mascot! That is what you do and that’s why I love you!
Stanley, you are a very gifted, blessed, sweet and talented cat! I have watched you a lot this weekend and I really like the excellent work with gestures, especially with the head, always active, cheerful & energetic. And prowling around like a true Florida Panther, especially during Musical Chairs on Friday. It made me smile so, so much! Thank you for letting me hang out with you in your BEAUTIFUL South Florida home, right on the beach – and for the autographed trading card you gave me!
From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much, Stanley! You helped me smile during a difficult period of my life – and you continue to do so until today by going out of your way to create extra-magical moments just for me! It makes up for all these days during my childhood when I was stuck at home or in a hospital, battling my challenges. You helped and help me looking forward. I know we will meet again!
Thank you for what you do to me and others that have the privilege to be around you! You are a shining example. It means the world for me – and it makes me an even prouder Panthers fan.
Now, Stanley, bang your drum and let out a loud roar as we cheer together: Let’s Go PANTHERS!
To the person receiving this message, please do make sure this gets forwarded to Stanley C. Panther, along with the attached photos.
Your special fan in Switzerland,
👍
