Terminant leur quatrième match sur la route en sept jours, les Penguins ont affronté les Islanders de New York à l’UBS Arena. Sidney Crosby a commencé le pointage au milieu de la 1ère période. Le gardien des Islanders Ilya Sorokin a arrêté le tir initial, mais la rondelle est tombée sous lui, à découvert. Crosby a repéré la rondelle lâche et l’a projetée dans le filet. Ce point marquait également la 13e fois que Crosby marquait plus de 25 buts en une saison. Les Islanders ont rapidement répondu avec un but pour égaliser le score à 1-1. La 2e période a été mouvementée. Rickard Rakell a ouvert la période avec son premier de la soirée, portant la marque à 2-1 pour Pittsburgh. Jake Guentzel a contribué au décompte de Rakell, lui donnant 50 points jusqu’à présent dans la saison. Jason Zucker a suivi l’avance de Rakell, déviant un tir du PO Joesph et augmentant l’avance des Penguins à 3-1. Dix minutes plus tard, les Islanders ont exercé une certaine pression et ont marqué leur deuxième du match. Après quelques allers-retours, Rakell, avec une minute à jouer au milieu du quart, a marqué son deuxième de la soirée… Mais, les Islanders ont répondu 30 secondes plus tard pour terminer la période, 4-3, en faveur des Penguins. Alors que la 3e période se poursuivait, les Islanders ont profité d’une opportunité de jeu de puissance et l’ont utilisée comme un changement d’élan. New York a marqué pour égaliser le match à 4-4. Lors d’une mise au jeu en zone neutre à la fin du 3e, les Islanders ont mis une cinquième rondelle dans le filet pour prendre les devants. Les Islanders ont gagné 5-4. The thing is that when Pens hold a lead, they just clock out and expect to win. Then we expect the opposite. That's how this season's went. Also DeSmith and Peterson looked awful.

Been too spoiled with good goalies the last few years so that now we cant defend properly. Cant leave people open for good shots on net.

Anyone that says Desmith is a good backup goalie has been proven definitively false. Every other game, he has a stinker of a performance in net. You can't honestly tell me that playing great one night and terrible the next is acceptable. He is a very average goaltender at this point and anyone who thinks otherwise is simply delusional. The jig is up, he needs traded.

What is actually wrong with Carter and Kapanen and even McGinn to some extent? Ship their buts out of Pittsburgh before these embarrassments of hockey players make the Penguins a laughstock of the league. This 3rd line is nothing but a tragedy. You could throw 3 Wilkes-Barre Scranton players on the 3rd line and have more total points production than these 3. I honestly feel bad for the top 6 forwards. They deserve way better than this bottomfeeder level of production from the bottom 6 forwards.

Beyond disappointing for penguins fans. This has been the theme all year. Blowing two goal leads all year long. They had two different two goal leads in this game and couldn’t even get to overtime for one point at least. In the biggest game of the year so far. Jake has been quiet all year and our third line hasn’t been great
