If getting Timo means giving up Dawson, then I say a big NO WAY. Mercer is about to take the next big step in his career. To me, Dawson is untouchable in any trade talks.

So here's my question: They want Mercer, right? That's great, good for them. Does that mean they also want Jarvis from Carolina? Perfetti from Win? Bc I just don't see a roster player of this level being moved from any contending team rn in on Timo. I'd call the bluff and if it means we don't get him we don't get him. There will be other options in the offseason and before the TDL next year. NJ isn't in the win now mode like others bidding, we're ahead of schedule and in the very beginning of our compete window
I am shocked San Jose has not inquired about Seamus Casey. They need defense, and Casey has the potential to be a complete gem. A dynamic, fast skating right-handed defensemen. A trade including him fills a need and puts to rest the Nemec chatter and would be sweet enough to remove Mercer from the conversation.

Package should include Holtz, Sharangovich, a1st and Walsh. No to Dawson. If Sharks don’t like it, let’s get Reinhart from Florida. Think he’d be a good fit.
Mercer has such a natural cut of a Devils player; talented, works hard, great attitude, and team first guy. Hopefully Mercer can retire a Devil with 1,000+ games!!

Love Meier, but has to be a flat no on Mercer heading to California. Sharks will have to adjust their thinking. Had a feeling it was the ask for Mercer that's been holding things up. Can't blame the Sharks, lot of us be doing the same thing.

I love Mercer ❤️ I don’t really want to give him up, but for Timo sometimes you got to make sacrifices for amazing star ⭐️ players, so I’d give up Mercer for Timo it’s not everyday that there are players like Meier on The Market. Got to get him now! Hope Tom gets Timo. It would be nice getting Timo Meier without giving up Mercer, I hope it goes that way but we will see what happens. Hopefully Tom pulls Timo without giving up Mercer.

I agree, Meier is definitely the better player than Mercer right now, but parting with Mercer would be a mistake. Even if it was 1 for 1, I say no deal.
We live in a cap world and any legitimate cup contender requires ELC production. He’s producing at a 0.50 ppg on 900k cap hit for this and next season. His second contract won’t be a premium and will likely be a ppg player during the Cup window. Not to mention, he’s out producing Meier when he was 21.
Lastly, cup teams pay a premium for players of Mercer’s caliber. I’m talking as high as two first round picks. Please do not trade Mercer.
Fwiw, I’ve always been opposed to the idea of trading for Meier. Let this young team continue to build and address the major weaknesses in the offseason.

The only untouchable prospects to me are Hughes and Nemec. If he takes that said next step, we're gonna have to pay him, which is gonna be tough.
Trade Mercer + Holtz + a first rounder + Bahl + all that money on a long term contract ? No F way. Fitzgerald wants the last word because he wants to low ball Meier or shave the offer as razor thin as possible. I also don't want to lose Bratt. When we paid 102 million for Kovalchuk he already had 2 seasons with over 50 goals and 3 seasons with over 40. He was franchise material and it paid off. Meier is not that kind of offensive powerhouse like Kane or McDavid or Ovechkin.
Devils fans are so completely gay for Meier but as I've said from the beginning: THE ASKING PRICE IS TOO HIGH!!!
Get someone like Brock Boeser for less. Offense really isn't the issue. Defense is. And Mercer is looking like a core player.
Then no way to this deal. We can sign Timo for no prospects or picks this summer
