I HAD TO BE 1ST TO SEE YOUR VIEDO LOL
Will miss Zetts.
Banished Player
I’m so happy for you bro!!! Go Devils!! Can’t believe they didn’t have to give up…. Holtz , sharagich and Hughes, Casey.
This trade better get Tom Fitzgerald into the GM of the year consideration. The cupboard is still stacked with talent and retain all of their best prospects. Will miss ZetterGod, Nikita Lunchpale, and liked Mukhamadullin, but it's all worth it for Timo.
But Zetterlund is now a solid bottom six guy he’ll get his chances
cant wait for next game. Lets GOOOOOO Devils
Big w #96
Devils also picked up the 2024 5th round pick from Colorado and 3 prospects (forward, defenseman, and goalie). They gave up two 1st rd picks that are likely to be late round picks so those aren't really going to hurt NJ especially since the prospect pool is deep as it is. Zetterlund and Okhotiuk will do well in SJ but weren't really getting much time in NJ so they don't really hurt to lose. Mukhamadullin is the only really significant player to go. Seriously incredible trade by Fitzgerald! And Meier is very likely to sign the extension at a fair price so LET'S GO DEVILS!
I agree i do hate we had to give up Zetterlund i would have rather given up miles wood
Rumor on conditions is devil's make ECF 2023 or 2024 it's a first if not it's a 2nd. It is quite a haul to give up but we still kept all our best prospects which is also kinda crazy. Timo time baby!!
Really good trade for both teams. Really excited and hope Timo IS that Power Forward we’ve been missing. Very exciting as our Cup window is officially open.
Good work on Fitz for keeping Holtz, Casey and our best prospects/ young roster player. I will miss Nikita too! IMHO losing two 1st round picks is a problem, one step towards mortgaging the future.
We gave up a lot here. Mukhamadulin I would not have included for a guy San Jose would have to release at the end of this year.
I'm just happy so much. Fitzgerald still doing a great job I hope people trust on him and the process finally
What line does he play on? I see him with Jack for his size and toughness.
Thrilled NJ got Meier without loosing to much from the active roster.
The lone roster player to be moved, Zetterlund, will be missed but Meier is a clear upgrade no question. Beyond that I've always liked Mukhamadullin, so I'm sad to see him go; but with all the D in our system, I can see why he's the guy out as Hughes/Nemec arent touchable, we have Siegs/Ham signed long term, and we got a bunch of depth prospect beyond that.
Finally, Im happy about the conditional 2024; while it will most likely be a 1st, it having the fall-back of being a 2nd makes me less stressed 😅. (And remember, signing conditions are no longer a thing)
This trade was set up a couple of years in advance. Multiple first round picks and high first round picks strengthened the Devils prospect pool. The Devils did not give up Mercer, Hughes, or Nemec. All of which should be key players going forward lessening the blow of giving up two late first round picks. Hughes,Hischier, Bratt,Hamilton and Meier is a great core to build around.
SJ fleeced nicely by the Devils they arguably scored SJ best player and prospects for zero big name prospects and late first rounders
I too will miss Zetts but this is a great trade and I think Fitz might have another move coming up
If there's no extension, we got hosed. If he signs Meier LT now, it's a great trade for both, though I give the edge to the Sharks. They restocked their depleted prospect pool for 1 player. They really needed D prospects and got 2, one mid tier and one top tier with Russia political risk. Zetterlund also fits well with that team. Right now he's an okay third liner, could develop into a second liner and won't be eating much cap while SJ rebuilds for the next 1.5-3 years. He'll be given regular NHL minutes and a chance to rise in their lineup before they start bringing up Barracudas like Bordeleau that they have been holding back on to improve their draft lottery chances.
i think if NJ re signs him they ripped of SJ, those first are like Toronto's first rounder.
This changes everything! LFGD!
I am going to miss Zetterlund and the 1st Round Pick (2023) the most, but I’m extremely pleased that the Devils retained their Top 5 prospects (Hughes, Nemec, Holtz, Gritsyuk, Casey). You could put Muk over Casey, but it’s a moot point. I liked that the Sharks went for quantity over quality, given their awful prospect pool. This is a move that should help them and help us. One of my largest sticking points was surrendering top prospects that are incredibly salient to this teams future and sustained success. Cup teams require productive players on ELCs and Fitzy stuck to his guns. Gold star trade for Fitzy.
Now to look at the players we gave…
The truth is Muk, Okhotiuk, and Zetterlund were never going to get a full time gig in Jersey. The Muk pick raised a lot of eyebrows, but it ended up being a significant piece in the Meier trade. One of Okhotiuk or Bahl needed to be moved as they were losing their waiver exemptions this offseason. They chose to go with Bahl as the future #6 D.
Now with Zetterlund, honestly I’m impressed that a 2017 3rd RD Pick turned out to be arguably the largest piece in the Meier trade. It just shows how rewarding it is to draft well, especially in the later rounds. This also is low key handing Holtz a top 9 spot next season (Bratt-Mercer-Holtz) and show’s management still believes in him. I wish them all best with San Jose. I really like this move by Fitz. Hopefully Meier agrees to a reasonable extension! LGD
Won't even notice Shakir or Johnsson missing. Not really notice Nikita either. Mainly Zetterlund. Was hoping it was wood instead on Zetts but oh well
I hate everything about this deal. They will be a cap disaster next year and Zetterlund is a way better fit. Plus a TON of other stuff thrown in for no reason like two 1st rounders
Can’t wait for Wednesday game ! I wonder what number Timo will wear since 28 is taken by Severson
Yesss we got Timo Meier! 😈🖤🔥, this is very amazing! Our depth is ridiculous we have such amazing forwards OUR FIREPOWER IS UNREAL WE ARE TOTALLY A WAGON!
Im looking forward to watching Zetterlund in San Jose. I may keep an eye on them tbh. I don’t really follow any western conference teams so maybe Sharks will be it.
Timo makes this team even more dangerous. He also seems like a sturdier player that brings some physicality
(liked seeing lots of hits at the last game vs LA btw)
I think you probably put him with nico and mercer.
Jack Bratt and yegor
Tatar with palat and Haula could be a solid third line.
I think we could see someone brought in for a 4th liner spot tbh.
And if i wanted to go out on a ledge, a crazy turn of events would be to pick up another goalie and maybe deal Blackwood. I want him here but the dude is fragile. Maybe a rebuild team has more room for that. He is only 26
Soooo happy we got Meier 😈🖤 & we do get the Extension, there’s no way Tom would of given all that up without knowing an extension can get done, also there is sources close to Timo that say he’s willing to get the extension done with NJ! 😈🖤🔥
Net front on powerplay 1 just got that much better
The hockey skatedown – do you now think we are serious cup contenders?
Yesss!!!
Thanks for the coverage. Any idea when can we expect Timo to play for the Devils? I heard he’s day to day which is a bit nerve racking.
I see Sharks fans complaining but I don't think they understand what they got in this trade
Woooooo!!! Let's go!! 😎 Glad it FINALLY happened lol. We've officially hit the "Go" button from this rebuild, and it feels SO good to start ADDING the final pieces to begin trying for cups.
Kinda scared to see what happens after this year. How are they going to resign all pending fa's? Don't want new Jersey to become the next maple leafs, top heavy without enough depth..
