This 2023 draft is deep in the first round for forwards, yet incredibly 6 RHD are a pretty great opportunity with Hronek departing…….. Axel Sandin Pellikka, David Reinbacher, Lukas Dragicevic, Maxim Štrbák, Hunter Brzustewicz, and Cameron Allen
So a LW is a need with Bertuzzi departing and a RHC top the need of this prospect pool also.
Pageau will return soon but no word yet on Barzel. Islanders have a very solid defence.
I have confidence that Stevie, and his amazing scouting staff,
will pull one out of the rafters like they always do.
Like Mo Seider.
The future looks very bright in MoTown already.
It will hopefully just be stronger and sooner.
LGRW! 🐙🏒🥅
the canucks got beauvillier, raty and hronek for bo and whoever the wings get in the draft. a player that won't be in the league for a year or 2. more likely 2 years. that is a good trade because vancouver isn't interested in anything but their near future right now with the age of EP, hughes, and demko.
I hate the Hronek trade was dumb can’t wait to see what Yzerman does with that pick I hope islanders go deep this year but idk this season been wild and never know what can happen Canucks got the worst end of the trade lol no direction we just the best tweener franchise to ever exist
islanders haven’t had pageau or barzal really since they acquired horvat that pick could be 25+
if the Islanders were healthy all year they would be top 10 maybe even top 5. last time they were completely healthy was in November where they were 2nd in the metro and 5th in the league
Vancouver fixes their defense and they'll be a very good team. I was on team rebuild hard to be honest but now that I see how well our core is playing right now and how young they are I now feel hopeful for the future. As far as prospects go if in a couple yrs we just don't seem to have the right core to make that next jump we all hope for how many picks do you think we'll get for our still young core pieces? Really a full rebuild is changing the core, not just support pieces
we'll see if horvat gets a cup first! and the Canucks need to redo their defence and Hronek looks to be a winner and that's what Canucks need , another reason to trade Boeser and keep Miller, to me he's a winner, Hughes a winner same with Petey. does anyone who follows hockey really believe Horvat will ever match those goal totals again, in a contract year?
I don’t get the Hronek trade hate. His contract is affordable for next year, he’s an RFA after it. He fits the Pettersson/Demko/Hughes timeline and if it doesn’t work out next year, he can easily be flipped at next deadline for pretty much the same return.
A team usually cannot fix a defence primarily through a draft. It takes to long. GMs need to take these type of swings for retools.
Deep draft…at 14/15 can get a, potentially, great player…lots of defense to get especially.
draft picks have value;
I want them to land 13th overall ideally.
There was lots of criticism that the Canucks didn't get a right shot defenseman in the Horvat trade.
Alvin needs to find legitimate right shot defensemen for the top two pairings.
There was no cap room last year to overpay for a right shot defenseman in free agency.
The hardest player to get in the NHL is a right shot defenseman. So the trade price will be high. Free agent signings for a right shot defenseman, which on average, are usually at least 28 years old, will be over priced.
Trading a player that will become a UFA is always defined as a rental.
The assets that the Canucks actually had in their possession before any trades were made was:
-1- Bo Horvat
-2- 2023 2nd round pick
So, for Bo Horvat, a rental player, and a 2023 2nd round pick the Canucks got:
Philip Hronek a right shot defenseman.
Anthony Beauvillier, scoring points.
Aatu Raty, was a 2nd round draft pick.
Detroit's 23-4th rd pick.
Hronek for a 17th overall pick. Not bad. Given the Canucks aren't great at the draft especially in later picks go for the sure bet in Hronek.
Paraphrasing Alvin's comments about not getting draft picks for the sake of getting picks. His point was that if he gets draft picks in trades he will be looking to trade those picks for players he's always said the Canucks need that are around 25 yrs old that can help now. The reason for this is since Aquilini has always dictated retool. Aquilini refuses to rebuild. These are the orders Alvin has.
Even if the NYI don't make the playoffs the pick will probably land in the 13th or later slot so I think it comes down to is Yzerman gonna use the pic or use it for trade bait to acquire a player
The odds of a 1st round pick that is picked from 15 to 31 playing 100 games in the NHL are around 50 -70%. That is with about an average of a 2-4 year development in the minors. Then they are already 22-24 years old. Trading picks for a guaranteed 25 year old right shot defenseman when the owner demands a rebuild is not a surprise. It is a good move.
And unlike the Canucks, Stevie gives zero f** what his stars think about his current roster. He plainly says they will be veterans by the time the Red Wings are ready to compete… not for a playoff spot but for a cup. Stevie Y just adds to his legend.
Canucks are in the worst position possible, WHY WOULD WE TRADE A 1st ROUND PICK!?
The Red Wings get the Islanders 1st round draft pick. So we have a tenth & eighteenth, first round picks in 2023. So we take the two first round picks, plus three second round picks, and trade for number one overall in the 2023 draft!
No sense dwelling. It’s not our pick
You have to look at it like would you trade Horvat and a 2nd for Beauvilier Raty Hronek and a 4th. That 1st was a trade chip nothing more. Canucks take a risk that Raty can become a player, but they get the RD that they have been coveting forever. You have to give Petey and Hughes players to play with now. You can't afford to wait 4 or 5 years to hopefully maybe develop a 2023 draft pick that can play in the NHL
Canucks got fleeced in the trade should off waited off season
Confused? Just have patience? U gotta belive,Because u know This is the WAY😅🤣😂
Basically we either used that islanders pick on a good defense men that takes 2-4 years to be nhl ready (probably) or trade to get a good defense men now that is on the up and up. I didnt like this move at first but after thinking about it, it makes sense
I hope the islanders with the cup and it’s a 32nd pick this year
Now just trade OEL, Myers and Boeser
The Canucks should trade their own first rd pick with a bad contract to they are not rebuilding with hughes /Pettey/kuzy/Demko/miller there
