His health is the big question
It was a win all along it was just a dumb trade based on where we were in the standings and the quality of this draft
It was always a good move, but nobody’s ready to talk about that
1) Franchise Goalie (27) check
2) Franchise Defenseman (23) check
3) Franchise Center (24) check
Trade to get a legit top 4 RHD that EVERYONE has been calling for………
Canucks fans * this team sucks blow it up and rebuild* So sick of the stupidity.
Canucks need to build their prospect pool and having two picks in this years draft, which is considered a very deep draft is a mistake.
Hronek is a good player, with that being said Canucks are just digging themselves deeper in salary cap hell. Canucks are already over the cap for next season and are already committing anywhere fro 6 to 7.5 million dollars to Hronek , lets not forget Pettersson contract is up next year too.
Canucks should be committing to a rebuild but the owner isn't interested in that. If the canucks do make the playoffs it will be round 1 exit so how are they better?
So…Why were you scrolling the Islanders' sub-reddit?
Theoretically, every year you get a first round pick. Solid RHD that are young, are harder to come by. He will Fil a solid role for y'all
Lego, it's too early to tell although, I am confident that Hronek will work out well for the canucks! Also, there is no guarantee that a 15th-overall pick would have been better than Hronek. This draft should be very interesting to watch, especially if the salary cap goes up by 5 million! This would create a bunch of trades. I guess we can only hope.
At least I don't have to watch Hronek break sticks over the crossbar anymore.
Well the islanders are out of the wildcard for now, though they have a game today that I expect they’ll win.
As a red wing fan, hronek was extremely split amongst our fans. I personally hated the guy, others loved him.
The side that hated him cited his dumb decision making while the side that loved him cited advanced analytics.
All in all I am so glad he’s gone.
I remember his highlight reel 200ft saucer into the empty netter lol
Give the fans what they want…
mediocrity.
Canucks are getting a D-man his prime and able to help the Canucks right away. Detroit has a lot of young defensemen in their pipeline.
It was good timing because they're building around Hughes and Petey around their prime. It's confusing because the voices in the market can only see one solution, and that's why they podcast and aren't gms. Even if this generation doesn't work, if the whole team improves then all of the assets appreciate. The key from a gms pov is to trade up constantly. Turning horvat into Beau and hronic is great. You get a competent winger and the piece that's most difficult to find. Plus a reclamation project in ratty. Even when you consider what needs to happen when resigning Hronic, there's a lot left to play out. Will Myers stay? Poolman? Which expensive winger make room? People tend to forget all of the guys on LTIR like Pearson, Mikheyev and Ferland (whose 3.5 is coming off the books). They give us room to deal any of the newly signed prospects in packages.
Not a win at all . We will just have to over pay him next year
As a Detroit fan I will say the Hronek is good at the offensive part of the game, but was a defensive liability. We had to shelter him. I would not, by any means, call him a franchise player. He just isn’t good enough offensively to allow you to over look the defensive liabilities in a franchise role, unless you shelter him with a franchise defensive defensemen.
In this past off season the subreddit consensus was that we would most likely resign him for cheaper or let him walk as a self rental, having placed his trade value at a second on the high end, most likely a third. Hronek outperformed expectations because Maataa blew us away. Hence why Maataa got an extension. But even with Maataa, Hronek made some absolute bone headed plays leading into a goal the other way absolutely killing the momentum.
I wish Hronek well, and if he becomes that franchise defensemen, I am really happy for him, but Detroit will take the first and second round picks and get someone/s that better fit the team and our window. (He was a Holland pick, isn’t 6’6 (joke), and not defensively sound)
