He should still be a f***ing Flame.
i’m upset all over again.
ya, worst deal ever. could have kept him in the west. now he is HELL on the east. Thanks Calgary from a LEAFS fan.
really sad about what happened to him
He has zero pressure in Florida
The flames losing Tkachuk in 2022 is like the flames losing Brett Hull in 1988 and Martin St.Louis in the 00's.
The flames repeat history of letting a superstar go for zilch. nadda. nothing. Is shockingly bad.
Tough break here….8 yr deal with the C would've been preferable
We bridged Tkachuk to keep Frolik for a few months. Oh man.. you just ruined my lunch break.
Well, that justifies the Tree firing. Imagine how salty JH is gonna be if FLA wins the cup 😉
Not a Flames fan — but Tkachuk is a beast — and if the scuttlebutt is true — that's rough rocks without a doubt. That whole scenario should be taught in GM University as a step-by-step guide for how to get fired into the sun.
Tkachuk loves it Florida, he is American, pays very little taxes, no snow.. He loves it there
Man this awful if true…if it makes you feel better Flames fans, Tkachuk may have requested a trade even if he signed a longer term deal
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Worst decision Canucks ever made was drafting Olli Juolevi instead of Tkachuk…remember watching the draft and seeing him still available when Canucks went and was super excited…but once again Canucks suck at drafting and drafted a player who doesn’t even play in the nhl. Legends.
HUUUUGE Mistake!
here is hw you measure character of a man, this fool will not take on e real man in hockey just pople he can agitate and then skate away, chicken chit, just look at what happened when Kassian rag dolled him he just wanted to curl up like a baby, coward and disrespectful person, hope he gets a real good hit on him as he deserves
If this is true, WOW 🤦🏾♂️
He’s been a beast and now he’s been unleashed!
lol
I think keeping the team together was always just the story they wanted to tell. If you listen to Tkachuk on Spittin Chicklets after he was traded he actually talks about holding out that summer. I think he didn’t care to go along with the narrative anymore after he wasn’t in Calgary. Also came out in that interview that Tkachuk despised Sutter
Brady is outplayed his contract in ottawa already.
To play the devil's advocate, even if the Flames extended Tkachuk, there is still 0 guarantee he would still be a Flame today much less the captain. If he was given a long term contract and started to feel disconnected like he did, his performance would likely be affected or he would have just requested a trade and the team could very well be in the same situation.
And what if Tkachuk turned out to be a bust after a long term deal ? Happens all the time. A player does well before signing a long term deal and then, once signed, numbers drop. Look at Kadri. No one has a crystal ball that can predict these things.
100% accurate. He always said he wanted to be a flame for life and was so happy when the flames drafted him. He was asked if he wished he was drafted higher and he said no way he only wanted to play for the flames. Something happening with the bridge and then they brought in Sutter and wouldnt assign a captain unlike every other team and there was also a general lack of passion and lack of winning culture, which made him want to move on. He still never trash talked the organization afterwards. Only ever said good things.
What was unforgiveable is Jim Benning passing on Matthew Tkachuk to take Ollie Juolevi lol
I think it was pretty obvious that things weren't working out with the old core so not too heart broken about this story. Flames did a great job of making what was, on paper, a well rounded team that could shut down the Oilers in the playoffs. How were they supposed to predict that Huberdeau and Kadri would just take the money and stop trying?
Of all 32 NHL teams the Flames are in my bottom 5 favorite.
Tkachuk has already said he wanted a long term deal.
Ive moved on from last season its done.
As a flames fan, upset that he is gone but what can you do now. I’m happy for him in Florida, he seems happy and he’s making the playoff rounds. Good for him
Agreed..
Keith's son is a perfect fit for the cats
It must be the tropical climate. Vitamin D can do wonders for you! Tkachuk performs better with the right "team" support. His got true grit and if daddy keeps revering the Leafs to his face, he's got a lot to prove!
Tkachuk lives in Johnny’s head rent free. Crazy how much he can’t stop talking about what’s in the past.
I don't know if you could point the blame at any one person. But at the end of the day it's all mismanagement. Very frustrating. Time for a full rebuild.
Yesterday someone told me that Canadian teams don't have the financial backing that US teams do, so I looked up the NHL roster salaries for each team… 1) Montreal 95 million 2) Vegas 91 million 3) Washington 90 million 4) Edmonton/Vancuever 89 million 5) Toronto 88 million. However Calgary was much lower. Calgary is the only small market Canadian team… even Ottawa was toward the top. I found that fascinating.
You don't even have to want the guy (which would be stupid not to)… but you definitely don't want him playing against you. Wow… big mistake. I'm a Bruin's fan and this guy broke the Bruins in the playoffs this year!
He was a no show last year playoffs
Without details on what Tkachuk wanted for his long term deal, it's a pointless argument. What if he wanted $12m/yr.?
