As a Hurricanes fan I would trade Marner, yes he was Toronto’s best player this season. But I do believe Nylander would do the same with more minutes. Wild trade that could work out, Marner to Rangers for Panarin and Kakko + 1st round pick. Kakko is a good defensive winger that has improved a lot this season. Panarin I think would be even better in a Toronto system. Knies, Matthews, Panarin first forward line. Kakko, Tavares, Nylander second line. And try to trade Liljegren for an experienced right handed defender that can play with Riley or on the 2nd line.

It’s time for regime change.
The Leafs are crippled by their salary structure. Neither Matthews nor Marner have shown they deserve a raise. The team leaders can't lead. The team has never consistently played with the fire needed to win the Cup. The coach keeps tinkering with the lineup for no discernible reason. They're built for the regular season. But this group of high paid underachievers will never have a sniff at the Cup.
Mathews deserves to go back to the Swiss league. His value is basically nil

The problem is more on défense. It's better with schenn and mccabe you must add toughest defense

This feels like maybe a dumb question but: why do we always treat Mathews like a superstar? He realistically has one season with top numbers right? He has never posted elite playoff performances, is it not crazy to feel like shipping Mathews off makes the leafs better if the return is good?
Take a look at Florida. Although they lack on elite skill, their top guys play with heart and bring it every night. They've also overpaid Bob, but do you think they're complaining right now when he's played like he has in the playoffs?
They need a goalie who can steal them a playoff games. Look at Bobrovsky, Vasilevsky, Grubauer.
Not many Matthew Tkachuk's, Landeskog's exist in the league. Timo Meier is a decent option, but who knows how much he'll want.
