I think the lou and lane show continues. Lou is looking closely at t o. If keefe goes he may look to replace lane with keefe. If dufus goes isles may want to add him to lous's staff. Maybe even as gm with lou moving upstairs to pres. And gil, with canes, fla, vgk, and stars/kraken winner left does this make car. the cup favorite with the way canes can shut teams down? And if canes win isles will have been ousted by cup champ their last three playoffs. My cup pick oil are gone now. Goaltending did oil in. Too bad oil didn't go hard after varly at tdl. Holland sunk too much $$$ into campbell to fail to add varly.
I don't want Kyle Dumbass. He's been with Leafs for for years and what has he built? A soft team that has won one playoff series in the 5+ years he's been there. Sorry, with all his analytics, he's not the NHL version of Theo Epstein. To some extent, I agree with Barzal. It's frustrating and nerve wracking to sneak in by one or two points each year. I think part of the problem this year is that the Isles were in playoff mode virtually for the last 2 months so how much physically and psychologically did they have left in the tank? Secondly, at no point this year did they ever play as well as they did for long stretches under Trotz. Now that could be coaching or too many players playing past their prime. Who knows. But I do think ownership and management owe us fans an explanation as to what the plan is to improve this team. We;ve gone through two years of regression and given the current roster, I can't see them even making the playoffs next year. Finally, RIP Gerry Hart. Along with Howatt, he added a lot of snarl to those early Islanders teams and even if they might be more talented, any opponent knew they were in for a tough game against the Islanders.
Morning Gil and guys, the only 2 reasons I can ownership keeping Lou and Lame would be that Lou said he can add youth for the team now/future and to not rock the boat. I said it before, I want no part of Dubas and we can add Okeefe to that list also. If Lou is retained and the ship stays the same or gets worse, once again the isles will be the laughing stock of the league. Good thing there’s not too many FA’s that the isles are gonna go after cuz Lou is too old skool and we all know what that means, he’s gotta loosen the reigns to attract future FA’s. Well if the team doesn’t get younger and faster and go back to a structured D, it’s gonna be a long season mentally for the fans. Great show Gil. RIP Gerry Hart.
Great job as always Gil. Honestly, I was expecting Lou & Lane to come back. However, I do think there are going to be a few big unexpected changes & I was reading Stefen Rosner early this morning & I do agree with him that someone we don’t expect. A dark horse player will be getting traded & NO, I don’t mean Bailey! He is gone and it wouldn’t be surprising if he goes to Chicago (they had interest in him at the TDL along with our second pick. Lou stopped the conversation once they asked for a second. But this year? I can see Chicago taking him for a leadership role without asking for our 2nd pick because he only has 1 more year left on his contract for 5 million and Chicago is way too close to the salary cap floor so they have to add salary so it would make sense. He would help Connor Bedard make the transition to the pros as he did with Barzy. I also think Varlly isn’t going anywhere, I know his contract is up but I think he’s going take a discount to stay with his good friend Ilya and the same organization (I know his family lives on Long Island) & he’s made enough money at this point in his career. So there’s no reason for him to uproot his entire family again and move to another city & team. Also, that team may not have two very important players that aren’t going anywhere for a long time who are Russians like Ilya Sorokin and Alexander Romanov Also, they’re both close friends with Igor Shesterkin too. Also, this has not been a political issue for these men, it’s a humanitarian issue! There’s a major war going on in all 4 (Ilya, Varlamov, Romanov & Igor) of their home country. Not a little flair-up war but the biggest war in Eastern Europe since WWII. So why leave a place where you’re welcome by the fans and appreciated and very much well-liked by people living on Long Island & NY? During such a horrible war going on in their home country. After watching these playoff teams with all of their goalie struggles! I’m glad we have 2 legit goalies. Other than Sorokin & Shesterkin (I had a feeling Ullmark may not be the goalie in the playoffs that he was in the regular season) There are not too many goalies that are as consistently good as Ilya has been over his 3 years and if Varlly stays on the cheap? All the better, because I don’t want to start next season without a reliable backup that can carry this team if Sorokin pulls a groin or something and will be out for a few months; that’s the last thing we need! 3 more years of Lou? This is depressing. On the other hand, Yoda will have to deal with his own mess. Culture, grit and sandpaper just isn't working. I guess ownership is happy with all the money the arena is raking in outside of what hockey dates brings in. Then there is the retail outlet and hotel. If the GM, whoever it is, doesn't make big moves this offseason we'll know ownership is happy just to make a round or 2 in the playoffs.
The track record on Lou is outstanding! He did turn the islanders into winning and make the playoffs. Like i said ubs arena is a fantastic arena. I am still not sure about tickets for the season 🎉this week I have met tickets for Tuesday,Thursday,Friday and Saturday. Busy,busy, busy with my son Scotty lol Kyle palmier and Zach parise are pretty good players. For sure they hustle! Gil you have a great show and thanks so much for the updates.
