When you're a team that isn't going to the make the playoffs you are a seller. That takes away a lot of leverage in potential negotiations with opposing GM's. The other issue is a lot of players don't want to play in Canada. The taxes and vaccine mandates are a problem for alot of NHL players. Not to mention the travel. As for the management team, they can buy all the off ice staff they want. If there is no team chemistry the on ice product will not improve. They just don't have the right mix of players on the team.
Kravstov is a bust alright he shows some flashes but overall he's not gonna be great. Guy has been the Rangers top prospect for like 4 years and each year I never understood the hype he had like 5 goals in 40 AHL games only a year ago. I sense a fleece coming for the Rangers as if they haven't been the luckiest team in the league already smfh
As a Die-Hard Rangers fan, the Canucks can have Kravtsov! The last thing l want is another Lias Anderson cupcake on my team, yet l'd trade Kravtsov to LA to get back Brendan Lemieux plus their 2022 1st round pick.

Now, I'm not sure everyone is aware of this. But the rags are low key listening to offers for Nils Lundkvist. With Kakko going down, their looking for another NHL ready now forward to replace Kakko until he returns for them to continue their playoff push, this season. People have been asking why they haven't called up Lundkvist, only thing we seem to be getting is he isn't part of their plans as of this year or, perhaps anytime soon.
Unless this deal starts with Braden Schneider the Canucks should not be picking up the phone
Jim Rutherford wasn't born yesterday. I do not think he's gonna put his eggs in the basket of a young man who's "ditched an NHL team and run off to Russia" before turning 21. The Kaprizov negotiations and threats of staying in the KHL will be remembered by GMs for a long time.
He's can easily be better than you're suggesting. Under the right circumstances he can be a good Top 6 player — the only question right now is whether his problems are related to mental toughness, Rangers' management or a combination of both.

Habs need to stay terrible for 3 years and draft well. Vancouver should be in the same road but both teams non stop doing 1/2 arse rebuilds and up back in the same place.
