IMO, Dubas stayed by his core guys while the board wanted change. He was ready to die on that hill, and did.
Hey guys how many people you know personally need to suffer from gambling addiction before you decide this isnt worth taking their money? do you require direct family? clearly the suffering of people you dont know isnt enough..
Every time a team doesnt meet expectations, management will be tempted to rock the boat. You do that youre officially walking on a tightrope, if it crashes it will crash fast and will take a long time to recover from. And even when it works, youre not guaranteed better results, sometimes you just stay afloat. This pressure cooker doesnt favor patience, they will do major moves and all you can do is hope for the best.
Leafs should trade to a team in need of a top Center like NJD. They have some intriguing defensemen like Simon Nemec, Luke Hughes and Damon Severson.
Shanahan is no Stevie Y that’s for sure.

Dubas has always sucked. Never shoulda been hired. That the same media idiots who think Dubas is a genius who single handedly made the Leafs good are now saying the Leafs are doomed because he’s gone is an outrageously positive omen for the team.
I can not wait for the retrospective montages one year from now when the Leafs are in the third round.

At first I didn't like him. I'm not a Toronto fan either tho. I knew this would be the year that Toronto would win the first round but I couldn't predict any further. I do think Florida wins the cup and Treliving is a failure more so than Dubas. I like Dubas, if he was a hockey player, he reminds me of Yzerman, passionate about the game of hockey. I see him winning a cup eventually. I hope Toronto hires Treliving. He messed up the Flames bigtime. Markstrom being his second biggest sin, Chucky was his career failing mistake as giving him a bridge deal was STUPID. Markstrom was giving him 6 years of FULL NMC. Now we are stuck with a terrible goalie who will wash out of the league at the end of his contract.

I think one thing that is not going to happen is that any of the core will be moved out any time soon. I doubt there will be much movement on extensions either. Whoever comes in will want evaluation time before making any decisions. I think there will be a coaching change, and they need enough signed to start next season but that might be the extent of what happens till 2024 trade deadline.

I’ve been hearing that Dubas asked for too much on his contract. And not just an extra 250-500K more like extra mil or two lol
I don't like how Steve has unpacked this whole thing… it's been pretty wide open and blatant since Shanahan came out to talk. Just don't spin it in a way that sounds good for your podcast. Shanahan was blatant – just go with that.
