I'm not a Leafs fan but I did watch their behind the scenes show or whatever on netflix (i think netflix), enough to see the head coach is a problem – seems super egotistical and insecure, loves telling everyone to "f-off", and he definitely is petty with the players and treats them like subordinates/children. Why aren't Leafs fans talking more about replacing Sheldon Keefe? Honestly, I want to know. GMs come & go, but coaches have the day-to-day impact & direct results with how they bring the best out of players & the team. Just wondering why the head coach isn't more of a target discussion here.
The biggest mistake was to let Sutter in place while it was obvious they were going down with him. It costs them a place in playoffs with a good team. Yeah the guy is proactive and is not afraid to make moves but the Sutter thing makes me think he definitely doesn't have the leadership to give a championship to the Leafs. I think it's a very very bad move hiring him.

Basically, let’s be honest though, this is a hire based on urgency. I don’t think Shanny had him in mind for the past 6 months. I am still definitely willing to give Brad a chance however. Experienced GM, experienced with Canadian market / media etc. I am completely open minded going into the off-season so let’s see how he does!
We have to remember Lou also “let” Tavares walk from NYI. It happens. Just hope it doesn’t happen with Mathews. 😉 heh
They should have gotten rid of Shanahan and kept Dubas and i say this as someone who wanted Dubas gone last season.
I’m glad to finally hear something have a positive take on this since so many people are dumping on this hire. I think out of the the available guys Treliving was the best option, so I’m happy with the move.
So he drops the ball numerous times in Calgary, it's only fitting that he gets a chance to f*ck up on a much much bigger stage in Toronto. His hiring only solidifies my belief that the Leafs will continue to suck in the coming years . Get ready to suck on the lollipop of disappointment for years to come Leaf fans.

I don't at all see how this is an upgrade on Dubas. Maybe just a better fit for Shanahan but what will the players think?

At least under Dubas he was part of a vision. The Leafs are going to struggle for identity and have a disappointing season next season.

Treliving’s record in Calgary is an accurate depiction of his ability as a GM: Not terrible but not great either. And the circumstances matter not regarding regarding why Gaudreau walked: A GM is essentially a manager of assets. Treliving gambled going into Gaudreau’s contract year and loss a top asset for nothing. No more no less.
The Flames have been mediocre for most of the organization’s existence. As a result I think many Flames fans overvalue this team’s positives at times. And I am a Flames fan.

Shanahan fired Dubas because of the underperforming and overpaid core four. Yet, he reportedly wants to keep the core four as well as Sheldon Keefe? So what was the point of firing Dubas?
With those glasses, Treliving looks like what Dubas is going to look like in 20 years. So we can say they just got an old Dubas. What's with Tkachuk at 2:01. It looks like his feelings are hurt, like he's a little kid who just got yelled at by his dad. I wonder what Treliving was saying.

i was hoping joe nieuwendyk was available if there was a dark horse off the board….i kind of wanted them to go off the board the leafs need a big shake up ……they need a new culture they actually need a tortorella type, pat quinn awakening to take another step forward

Wouldn't be nearly as much Treliving slander as there is right now if Darryl Sutter didn't tank Calgary's season. That's still a great roster over there and they'll be much better under a new coach.

Everyone talks about how Tre losing his star players wasn't his fault (which I don't fully agree with), but everyone also fails to mention that in 9 years the flames have only gotten to the second round TWICE. He was given the reins with a very young and promising core and it's all gone to shit. Horrible coach hires, horrible draft pick management, horrible goalie signings.
I don't hate Tre, he defended our city when we were at our lowest. But you're inhaling some strong ass copium if you seriously think he's a "great" GM in this league.

I never liked Shanahan when he was on the Rangers even though he put up decent numbers. Something about him always gave ancient vibes. I'm not a Leafs fan. I still don't like him.
