No. Who’s to say he breaks out there. Im sad as a lightning fan but there wasn’t any way we could keep him. I remember him having a hat trick against the canucks lol. But in the playoffs he barely played if i recall, he was a black ace. There were just too many players ahead of him in our lineup at the time. Still sucks that he’s gone tho we could use him now 😢

Carter Varhaeghe and Adrian Kempe remind me a lot of each other they are both late bloomers who became 40 goal scorers this year and, are both really underrated, and they are both on really good contracts they are two of the most underrated players in the game

When guys get traded – sometimes there are some pleasant surprises- they do well when they move on. Good on Carter. This year – Phil Kessel might win his 3 rd Stanley Cup. When Leafs struggled & Kessel faced fan negativity and so he was traded – no Leafs were talking about Phil as a 3 time Stanley Cup winner. Maybe it happens this year? That is like 75% of the 4 Cups Leafs won in the 1960’s. And Phil had to win 4 not 2 rounds to get his. Some Leafs fans are thinking Leafs are starting to decline even in the regular season now.

I recall watching Tampa in the finals the year they won and noticing that Verhaeghe looked really good and super effective whenever he was on the ice in a bottom six role. Although I can't say that I predicted a breakout the season after in Florida, I thought he'd be capable of playing higher in the lineup and be really good. I had hoped the Leafs would sign him as a UFA and thought not signing him was among Dubas' biggest mistakes.
