i dont see the love affair for mathews, i would trade mathews to arizona for their two first round picks, giving leafs 3 firsts in the deepest draft and more importantly 12 million in cap space. its a win win for now and the future, the fact matthews has barely acted interested in staying is clear enough to me and he will cost too much. go get carlson from sharks or hellebuck from jets or both if you get rid of one draft pick.
unless leaf fans are about Drama and not winning in the playoffs, I am a caps fan from seventies (yes im old) we didnt win with a 60 goal scorer for years,but we could afford him without killing the team, it took a great 4th line ,kuzy waking up and a amazing benched goaltender to win. leafs are twice the team the caps were in 2018, matthews is a luxury not a need.

In the last twenty years the cup winners had very good defensemen, if not the best defensemen in the league. Why do Toronto fans talk about adding more forwards but completely forget about defensemen? Luke Schenn? Really?
The core 4️⃣ will never win the cup 🏆 you can't pay 4 players the majority of money & forget about the rest of the roster.

why do you consitently want to bring back washed up players in their 30s that no other team wants, schenn isnt a good player, the leafs won that first round by pure luck and the second round beating they took from florida is proof of that
