Kent Hughes is a smart man. Given the salary he wants and the fact that the Jets wanted Kirby Dach too, not worth it whatsoever.
Dach is here to stay, if dubois wants to sign as a hab next year for under suzuki contract , it may work out ; otherwise if he goes for LA or any other team we wish him good luck

The Kings will not trade for him for a 1 year deal. Unless, they only give up a middle winger and a prospect and the Jets retain $ Not sure anyone wants that to happen, so……

Kirby dach made some big improvements his first year in montreal. I wouldnt even be comfortable trading him 1 for 1 for PLD. We forget hes only 21 or 22

Dach looked really good this season, he could have a breakout season if he stays healthy so I'm happy they're not overpaying for him
This idea of Pierre Luc Dubois signing with the Montreal Canadiens never made any sense to me. The Montreal Canadiens are in year one of what is likely to be an arduous rebuild. That is not the moment to add , even a very young (25) free agent. Free Agents are the most expensive players a team can add and must be chosen with care. I believe Dubois brought up the canadiens because as a french canadian this is the market he could command the highest salary and the greatest fan loyalty in. Hopefully he signs in LA for the reported 7 years at $7.5 million which is around what he looks like he might be worth. If he begins to produce better than the 28 goals and 65 points a season he has managed so far LA will have gotten a bargain.
Trading assets for the right to attempt to sign him for too much money made zero sense for a team newly into rebuild that hasn't got of rid of all their old bad contracts : Armia, Gallagher, Dvorak, Anderson, Hoffman.
What purpose can be served by adding a center this early on. Maybe in the next two years they draft the stud first line center they need and maybe they need cap space to add a scoring winger or a goalie or a defenseman but they have already spent it too early on Pierre Luc Dubois.
This makes a lot more sense for a team like LA attempting to retool on the fly to give Kopitar and Doughty one more shot at a cup. That's the time in your cycle when you make that move not at the very start.

I wouldn’t have traded Dach for PLD straight up. Even Anderson being given isn’t something that I would be crazy about. Dvorak plus a LD prospect and 31 most I’d consider.
Also if PLD is being genuine then the contract is 3 years max anything else he is a tool that used them as leverage

As a Habs fan and have been hearing about PLD, I would not even want to give him a contract even after he does let’s say a 8 years with LA and than try’s to finish his career here I wouldn’t even want to give him a dolllar
I also feel that Dubois might be looking for 9 million a season was something Hughes did not want to spend.. A guy who only has 63 points for his career high is overpriced. Habs rebuilding were not going to give up some of the key rebuilding pieces they have.
