   The cash cows are coming home to roost… they overpaid across the board with Mathews waiting to be served 13M+ per. The Leafs are screwed. Rental players are not gonna cut it. The org looks like a veterans home for grey beards and cement heads.

   Who cares if he walks? Teams trade 1st round picks like candy for rentals that you have for a couple of months. But when you have a player you used a 1st round pick and got 10 years out of a guy, everyone's like, oh no, we can't lose him for nothing! Um, it wasn't for nothing. We got YEARS from that one pick. We got nothing out of the picks for Folino and ROR.

   If hes asking 10.5 million his league perrception is around 9 million per year, i cant see this guy doing anything but pricing himself out.

   If toronto wants to get anything other than low 1st or high second roind pick then he needs to pull a dubois and do a sign and trade, it will drive the value up.

   The problem with that is it needs to be at a number that the other team wants to take, if he signs for 10.5 million per year the leafs are going to be in the same boat and get a 2nd round pick. The rest of his value gets tossed out the window because whatever team is trading for him is trading for him with an inflated salary.

   i dont think marner or mathews are worth there contracts , as much as willy is deserving of his , but its obv they dont want to trade turnover machine golden boy marner so he is on the outs , trade him to like a LA or anahiem and get some decent players back nylander can fetch 2 good players 100% and then our roster is complete !! and people talking about karlsson thats all good but we have klingburg and rielly both are bad on defense and pinch way too offensively minded , to bring in a 3rd guy karlson no way man , now if rielly is going the other way to the sharks im all for it !! but we will see the leafs definitely are not finished !!

   Would he ask for 8.5 or 9 in Florida, Nashville or Vegas where they have better income tax? And is asking for 10 in Ontario because the taxes suck? He's on a team with 3 players making over 10, why not ask for 10? If he's saying he's the 4th best player, why not be the 4th best paid?

    Nylander is the least effective when it comes to Marner/Matthews. $10M is way, way, way too much. With the tough new look of the Leafs, the organization should try to trade him…although his asking price is far too high for not only the Leafs, but anyone at else.

    Dubas screwed us by giving Marner so much money. Nylander isn't wrong for asking for that. He did have 40 goals this season. Dubas shouldn't have given these guys so much money in the beginning. Set the benchmark way too high

    Why does leafs nation continuously fail to grasp how negotiations work? The Leafs want Nylander in the 8s. Nylander is asking for the 10s. What do you think the goal of the Nylander camp is? Could it be the convenient middle number of 9~?

    Seriously guys, welcome to the real world. If you think Nylander (who just scored 40/85+) is worth 8 mil in a market where Bratt just got 7.8 million then you are the problem.

    Nylander is top 2 passer, top 2 shooter, top 2 skater with puck and top 2 playmaker in the team….maybe top 3 on a couple of these for arguments sake. And he does not deserve to be close to top 3 salary in the team?

    Mr. Alberga makes the same shortsighted mistake as many posters. 8.8M for Meirer in New Jersey, USA is not comparable with Bill being paid 8.8M in Toronto, Canada. Period. The Leafs need to overpay at least 10% to offset less favourable tax structure in Canada & particularly in Toronto. So a fair aav for Bill, to approximate Meier's after tax net dollars is 9.5 to 9.7M. The rumour is he wants 10.6M x 7, so no f*cking way. He is not at the level of Matthews, or even Marner, although if he actually played reliable D, he would be worth it, but he doesn't.
