The thing that bugs me, is that we need a tough defensive defenseman and to trade at least one of the core 4, they need to send a message, that this team will put you on your butt night after night, that the Defense is a wall to get through, and that they will have fight every night. When it comes hardy work ethic, Tavares does great, he hasn't produced always come playoff time, but he's worked every shift and comes back unlike Matthews and Nylander. I have said it before and I will say it till they follow my advice, they have to build like their championship teams from the 40s and 60s, tough and defensive clubs, teams that don't necessarily set regular season records, but come playoff time, are on. If Matthews wants to stay in Toronto he has to either play tougher, or find a way to produce without needing to drop the gloves in the playoffs.

  2. The Reeves pick up got them some toughness but the Domi pick up was a mistake. Hes more likely to take dumb penalties and will kill them in the end.

  3. Absolutely. If hockey is not going to go in the direction of skilled hockey in the playoffs, then make us the Bruins. Much better chance than the skilled Leafs. How about becoming the Golden Knights? Everyone needs to gain 10 pounds of muscle, an inch in height, and have 4 lines of tough, smart, players.

However, don't let Tavares get anymore head injuries. He's a very talented, tough, and hard working player, but, he doesn't always keep his head up. We have to teach him. He is much too valuable to lose to head trauma. Thank You.

  4. Yeah, adding Reaves, Bertuzzi, and Domi does make me a little nervous when the Avs play Toronto but not because of their physicality rather their sleazy antics. It'll be interesting to watch and I hope it does benefit Toronto because I've been kind of rooting for them for a while. It'd be nice for them to get a cup same with Edmonton. It kind of feels off, though. Almost like sticking a group of immoral or shady characters in the same room as moral and straight arrow type of characters. Will opposites attract? or will it cause a rift? Idk, but I'll be watching lol

  5. O'Reilly left for a reason. No one wants to stand up for a man child figure skater who just wants top dollar. It's hockey you can't pick and chose what parts to play he won't ever win a cup. He's 6"3 220lbs doesn't hit or fight he sucks and will remain cupless.

  6. Locker room character and legend not withstanding, I feel that the Ryan Reaves signing was a waste of time and money, and reminds of me when Brian Burke signed Brad May. Bertuzzi and Domi do bring that grit/skil combination, which would be useful in the playoffs, but until the Leafs' leaders truly showup in the playoffs who they bring in is inconsequential.

  7. Reaves is terrible – a total liability.

They better have a good PK unit.

  8. First thing the Leafs need to do is get their biggest star to lose the porn star mustache.

  9. This is why I liked Luke Schenn so much, guy is tough but it’s a shame we’ve lost him now

  10. The will win the president trophy this year…..and you know what that means.

  11. Consider Tavares to be a lost cause when buying into the new character of this team. Matthews probably will step up but as far as Nylander and Marner.. both try to avoid that style like it's a plague. I see a locker room divide happening this season. The new guys trying to get the kids to step it up and the kids having temper tantrums in response.

  12. I think the addition of these two GOONS isn't gonna change a thing. Should be nothing but entertaining! They'll have to improve that Penalty Kill.

  13. Matthews and Marner became instantly braver with the Ryan Reaves free agent signing. Auston will never have to fight Steven Stamkos ever again! Reaves will see to that.

  14. Reaves needs to grab each of the top 4 by the collar and rag doll them around a bit, start big brother bullying all of them and forcing them to fight back. Constantly poking and slashing them so they grow thick skin. Make men of them.

  15. There gonna be fkn stacked next year. If Matthews, Nylander, Tavares ,Riellyand Marner can toughen up a bit along with Bertuzzi, Domi, Reaves and McCabe with 2 rookies knies and klingberg this is team on paper should win the cup

  16. The Leafs have long been soft and easy to play against and nothing has changed until now. I like this vision. Hopefully the players buy in.

  17. Bunting plays tougher than Domi, Orielly plays every bit as hard / maybe harder than Bdertuzzi. Reaves wount affect play on the 4th line. HOW are the Leafs HARDER to play against. The top guys still are there and they are soft

  18. Excellent moves by the new Leafs management. Domi, Bertuzzi, Reaves.. that’s a lot of grit and character that can change a locker room. If those guys can rub off on the core 4 and get them to toughen up, this team might be able to win more than 1 round. Excited to watch these guys.

  19. Trade one of the 4 to Calgary and get a good defenseman and try to get wolf.he's the real deal.

  20. It's a great move to make, especially since the Leafs lost a few key players in the off-season that were supposed to help this franchise past the 2nd round 2023! Didn't happen. Nevertheless, new miracles will generate the Toronto Maple Leafs to definitely make the postseason every time. Especially with top young players making differences in most regular season games! Mitchell Marner passes the puck perfectly in key moments for goals that definitely go a long way!! He's the guy that helped get 1 win against Florida Panthers in the 2nd round that kept them alive at the time!

  21. Firepower was never the issue in Toronto and making the team overall even worse defensively won't resolve their problems. The issue was never a lack of talent, it is the mindset of the core 4. They have not added anything that will change the mindset in that locker room so far. How these additions will scare anyone is beyond me. They have just made it harder to sign Nylander and keep the core 4 together. Is Reeves really worth losing Nylander as they probably will only have Bertuzzi for 1 year max since they will likely give Matthews whatever insane demands he wants crippling the team from moving forward. John Tavares is bound to soon start his decline as he isn't getting any younger

  22. As a leafs fan I like the players but we need to change if we are going to win. Unfortunalty that probably means loosening Willy to get better defence.

  23. Core 4 have no grit or balls to push back. Another first round exit, IF they make the playoffs.

  24. I haven't been this excited for a leafs season in my life. 30 years old now. These signings are reminding me of the old days with sundin, Tucker and Tie. Cannot wait to see how these guys come together
