  1. Bo is a good 5.5 mil player. But I'm a guy who thinks that players are way over paid. Teams make mistakes with player above 6.5 mil to 8.0 mil ouch to the team who is stupid enough to tack on extra dollars.

  2. Huh? Judging someone based off of 31 games and saying their overpaid is beyond ignorant

  3. I think the sample size of him under performing on a new team at the end of the season was too short to classify it as a bad contract, especially when other around the league have been proven mistakes and are time tested.

  4. Barzal had 85 points in his rookie season. He hasn't even hit 60 since then. How do Islanders fans think putting him with Horvat will somehow magically turn both of them into scoring machines? Horvat has played with Pettersson, Miller, and Hughes, maybe not all the time, but sometimes, and up until last season he had never put up big numbers. Barzal is not an improvement on those players. 61 points was Horvat's career high before last season. If those fans are ok with him being paid $8.5 million for his leadership, fine, but he's not going to tear up the league points wise.

  5. Jeez how did it get to this point 🙄. Literally EVERY player is overpaid

  6. To me Leon Draisatl is a far superior player and with 128 points on the season last year, Horvat's contract is like a free agent signing comparable NYI got fleeced with that contract. I see him as a 6-7 mil player because although he was playing phenomonal that kind of pace isn't sustainable for him. He scored 70 Points on the Season. JT Miller got 82 Points and is only getting paid 8 million. After the next 2 years Horvat's production is going to fall and that contract will look terrible at that point.

  7. Love the guy but love that we actually got a good deal for him. I fear this deal will not age well for the Islanders. Raty is now our best prospect, Hronek is immediately one of our best D and Beauvillier hasn't looked bad.

  8. Sorokin's deal expires in 2032. Barzal and Horvat in 2031. Mayfield, Pulock, and Engvall in 2030. Pelech in 2029.

Is that to say Horvat's deal, specifically, is a bad contract? Nah. The jury's still out on that. But it should illustrate a much larger problem for the Isles. Lamarillo has handcuffed the Isles to seven players, for long term, with almost all of them making a ton of cash. That's a little over $36m tied up for the foreseeable future, or 43.1% of the current cap. That cap isn't going up that much in the 6-8 seasons remaining on those deals. I'd argue a good GM would've signed some of those guys to shorter contracts.

As a Wings fan, I wish the Isles luck, but this is eventually gonna bite them hard, and it's gonna really suck for their fans.

  9. Bo had 54 points in 49 games when he was traded to NYI (1.1 ppg) and signed the $8.5M x 8 contract extension.
He then proceeded to rack up 16 points in 30 games for the Islanders (0.53 ppg).
He is a 50-60 point per season guy as the #1 center. He will be #2 behind Barzal on the Island. Expect 40-50 points per season.

  10. This would suck so much more if aatu raty becomes a solid nhl player

  11. We'll have to wait until next season if the trade was one sided or worked for both teams.

  12. Me thinks Bo was a Canadian player, playing in a Canadian market (the holy grail), Loved by his fans, then gutted (traded) by the management. No wonder he isn't as productive. Inking Miller before Bo sent a message. Correct me if I'm wrong but having one of the league's best face off guys, is a good thing. It's hard to score if you don't have the puck……(Just a thought)

  13. 8.5m for the next 8 years is a lot of money for a guy with one 60 point and one 70 point season. He's not a bad defensive player, but he's definitely no Danault or Bergeron. Maybe things will work out and he'll post many more 30 goal, 60+ point seasons, I'm just not sure how much I'd personally bet on it.

  14. The contract has to be played out. Then you can judge it. Nylander is what 8? and had 3-4 sub 60 point seasons, jumped to 80 for two seasons and was a -9 for one of those. He rarely defends. Bo plays a better all around game? probably.

  15. Happy for Horvat that he got his money, but to be honest, I'm glad it's the Islanders who are rolling to dice on Horvat earning that crazy contract.

  16. I am not worry about Harvard he will adapt, the entire Vancouver upstairs needs to go and kick rocks they sucks, let's hope Boeser get out of there too he does not deserve the treatment …

  17. Horvat brings with him some intangibles that cannot be easily measured by stats alone – he can win key faceoffs, and in the very limited sample size of bubble playoffs, appeared to have the ability to bring his game up an notch and carry the team/will the team to a victory. Still, I feel he got a deal while he was at his highest value; he would be considered overpaid for what he would do for the Islanders, in my opinion.

  18. There should only be one name for this topic. Ken Holland and the destruction that is his deal making that destroy a team. My condolences Edmonton..
