February would be a terrible time to play a tourney like this. Players are in the middle of an NHL season. That's their bread and butter. They ( or their owners) can't risk injuries before the NHL playoffs. I love the idea of a best-on-best tourney, but it has to be after the Stanley Cup playoffs are over.

How hard is it to just schedule a game really. It’s not hard the NHL just wants to make sure they can get the most sponsors the most adds the most tickets the most coverage it’s all money. They could do a game this year if they wanted but they won’t because they want to capitalize on the money side.
In my eyes it’s nothing short of SHAMEFUL that the best player to ever lace up the skates hasn’t got the chance to represent his country.

I don't want to be a spoil sport, but I feel like it won't be best on best. I think this "Tournament" is in response to the NBA's new in season Tournament. This is the NHL playing catch up with the NBA and WBC, that rekindled Baseball interest worldwide, as a means to get TV deals with Apple or YouTube. ESPN is gonna drop the NHL first chance they get and the local TV deals are dead. NHL may die if something isn't done to get hockey interest up in the US specifically.

I’m lucky enough to have gotten the chance to watch Sid practice at RMU in Pittsburgh when he wasn’t selected for the ‘06 Olympic team. He looked like an absolute psycho out there! It was something special watching him make his teammates look like pylons.

The problem is the IOC. They are the richest sports organization in the world. They refuse to pay the insurance on the players to participate. They want the NHL to pay for it. NHL doesn’t want to pay for an event it isn’t hosting. If there isn’t insurance on the players the NHL teams won’t allow them to play as they have guaranteed contracts. Imagine McDavid getting hurt in Olympics and nhl has to pay the rest of his contract without him playing.

Yeah, international tournaments with the best players are the best you can watch! And there are some really good nations behind a team canada which is over every line and position pure excellent. But Sweden, Finnland, USA, Czech, Switzerland aso and Germany also would perform well. A German team with Draisaitl, Seider, Stützle, Peterka, Grubauer, Reichel, Sturm, Rieder and others can also beat every team of the world on a good day. I would love to see a final McDavid against Draisaitl!
