  1. Here is one trade idea that will never happen but I feel Elvis Merzlinkins straight up for Cambell. Elvis contract is similar in he is making 6million only 5.4 counts towards the cap.

Elvis could use a change of scenery once the death of his best friend & teammate he admitted to the cannonball going off after home team goals affected his ptsd of the fireworks accident. Like how Adam Larson needed to play elsewhere from Edmonton after his father died suddenly while visiting the change of scenery can help deal with grief

  2. I think Campbell is coming back this season. He's had great seasons in the past. He has a great team around him, he has everything to prove and he's great in the locker room. He had a bad year, I won't be surprised if he puts up a .910-.920 save percentage this season

  3. I believe Soup will have a decent bounce back this season. Around .911 sv%, 2.75 GAA is my expectation.

He had a very strong playoff performance, despite playing very little when replacing Skinner every time Skinner would get pulled. Sometimes, goalies have a bounce back with their new team the next year later. And it's not just the pressure with the new team, but emotions outside of the game that can be overwhelming for a lot of players at times

  4. I didn't think Campbell was bad in the playoffs. Skinner, however, was terrible; as in, Mike Smith level terrible.

Campbell's regular season wasn't good, and his last season and playoffs with the Leafs was all over the place, so I can see why they are nervous about their goaltending.

  5. Getting a new goalie won’t fix anything because that new goalie has to get use to Edmontons system and how they play. We all need to relax trades are not the magical fix all the time. Campbell had a rough time adjusting but with a full season under him he will be better this year including Skinner. The things is what they pay Campbell he should be the starter so hoping he gets good enough because a 5 million dollar backup is not good no knock on Skinner.

  6. Campbell played better than Skinner in the post season though…..

  7. Near as I can tell Campbell made three appearances in relief. He faced 22 shots and allowed one goal against Vegas.

He had a terrible season overall and I’m worried every game he starts, but Campbell didn’t crumble in the series against Vegas. He’d have to get a start or have ice time when the game mattered for that to be the case.

Righty or wrongly the Oilers went with Skinner, the guy that got them there. I think Campbell should have come in sooner or maybe even started game 5 or 6. But that’s just hindsight .

  8. Get real – Campbell had an awesome postseason. And if he starts Game 6 (like he should have) the Oilers may just have gone all the way.

  9. Need to bundle him up with one or two first round picks, a second round, a quality prospect, and $1-1.5M retained and try to get a a trade and sign with Winnipeg for Helleybuck. HE is the last key to this puzzle. The only way you can keep Campbell is if we once and for all get rid of the bum of a goal coach that we have. Sean Burke in Vegas was great at taking Adam Hill (and other goalies last year) to a next level. The only thing "Schwartzie" can do is cause massive regression. Helleybuck….GAME, SET, and MATCH.

  10. His leash damned well better be short, that's all I can say. We stuck ourselves with one grossly overpaid, underwhelming and un-tradable goalie only to go right back out onto the market and get a second one the minute the first one was gone.

I've said it countless times already… cap space IS an asset and I wouldn't hesitate to trade any underperforming player for exactly that… cap space! Imagine what we could do with that $5M right before a possible cup run. A decent backup goalie and a reliable depth D or FWD.

And as for you "bounce backers" and "another chancers", how patient do you think we can afford to be with time running out for 97 and 29? And while you're at it, ask any Toronto or LA Kings fan what Jack Campbell's "normal" is and what exactly you expect him to "bounce back" to. If he was starter material, neither of those teams would've let him go. Think about that.

  11. Chicago could take him on, right now they have the two worst goalies anyways so any other goalie is gonna be a step up

  12. I feel the only team who would take him is going to be Arizona. As much as I like the guy that cap hit probably looks tasty for the coyotes to keep em off the floor to pay their skaters less 😂

  13. Campbell was solid in the Playoff games he played. I think he's going to make a legitimate play to become the starter again this season. He changed a lot about his equipment last season and I think it just took him time to settle in to those changes. I think we see a new Campbell this year.

  14. Cambell had a really good last 2-3 games of the regular season and showed really well come playoff time. There’s really no way to know what you are going to see next season, but I doubt it’ll be the full garbage pile we saw early last season. Should be a good watch.

  15. As a jets fan Conner hellebuyck for Campbell a first and 50% salary taken by either Edmonton or Arizona or a team like that

  16. Stuart Skinner faultered against Vegas, Jack Campbell barely played.

Campbell bounces back this year. Book it.

  17. Look what goaltending did for the 06 oilers. Three headed monster in the regular season. Worst sAve percent in the league. Roloson comes in. Pronger and Roloson and fire in a bottle brings them to game 7 of the SCF.

  18. Well I mean brossoit was shit against the oilers, hill is the reason they won and oilers should have played Campbell because of his good performances shown in the playoffs compared to skinner

  19. In fairness Campbell did quite well in the Vegas series when he was called on. They actually probably should have went to him to start after the second Skinner pull in my opinion. Worst that would have happened is the same outcome they got anyways. Hindsight though I suppose.

  20. You better hope that Campbell gets better because his contract is expensive and has a lot of term on it ($5 million * 4 years), which will be very expensive to move. The only other solution is to make him part of a bigger trade like LA did with Cal Peterson (but he only had 2 years left on his contract)

  21. Ahem, it was Stuart Skinner who was pulled 4 times in the 2 series this past playoffs, and Jack Campbell who saved their bacon in game 3 vs. LA plus ended up technically with the best stats of all goalies in the playoffs. Woodcroft failed the team by starting Skinner 12 games in a row when he had never played that many games in a row since turning pro. Skinner looked tired and shaken yet Woodcroft refused to start the veteran goalie that Holland signed as an expensive free agent in case the Oilers needed one for the playoffs! Skinner is young and will continue to improve. I hope that Woodcroft improves too.

  22. I like how Flames have become such an underwhelming non-topic for everyone in the hockey world that you barely make videos about them anymore. Sad to see how far that team has fallen. As for the Oilers, if Campbell can pull his head out of his ass and play well like he used to (he's always been hot/cold), but if he can get a hot year, the Oilers might make it deep. It's all-in or bust at this point for them, so they need to throw everything they got at winning the cup.

  23. it almost like a shitty goalie with term left at 5 mill aav got traded oh right cal petterson got traded and he worst than campbell

  24. Fix. The defence. How many times doed this need to keep being repeated? You can get away with average goaltending, but you can't get away with bad defense. Ekholm is the only defensemen on the Oilers who can actually defend and he's in his 30's. Everybody is so blinded by McDavid and Draisaitl, that they're completely forgetting this is a team relying on Cody Ceci as their top pair RD on a nightly. That is not a Cup contender. I'm sorry. It's just not. Campbell only had one down year. Give him a break. It's hard to make saves when your defense can't defend. There's a reason why NJ made it to the 2nd Round with Akira Schmid as their starter in the playoffs. Because they actually have a competent defense. Trade for defensemen. Not goalies.

  25. Jack played well with Toronto. His contract with Edmonton made sense at the time, and it’s brutal seeing how his performance has diminished last season. Hopefully he returns to form.

  26. man idk, i know the oilers give you numbers because theyre relevant, but youre milking this fucking team like a cow ready to give up on life.

  27. Woodcroft should be on a shorter leash after starting Skinner every game in the Vegas series. Holland too after having to include Kostin for Yamamoto, and signing Bouchard for just enough not to have a 22 man roster, but having enough cap with 21 for what could've been a Yam's buyout.

    Fire Bill Scott!

  28. Campbell stole a game in LA and was rewarded with sitting on the bench while vegas lit up a shaken rookie child. Woodcroft, as good as his stats are… Is kind of a noob.

  29. Skinny will be just fine and soup will surprise everyone with a bounce back season.

  30. I just don't know. Goaltending in Edmonton has been a problem since like 2004 when Salo left. Rolo I suppose wasn't bad in the couple years to follow either… At this point, I'd be looking at firing coaching staff before I traded a goalie. That's my take anyway.
