    They accomplished 2 important things with this trade: They got under the cap, which is the most important thing, and they picked up a veteran back up for Demko. Normally I’d be furious that they gave up a 3rd round pick, but clearly they had no other option to get under the cap ceiling if they didn’t do this, they would have had to play regular season games a man short. If they have any chance of making the playoffs, that wasn’t an option. If there’s ever an excuse for having to give up a pick, being cal compliant is as good as any. Granted, they put themselves in this position by overspending, but they’re insisting on trying to make the playoffs this year, so it is what it is.

    Another positive way to look at it is by not trading Myers we can likely recoup that 3rd at the trade deadline. Was it not possible to at least try waiving Pearson first? I know that would be super cold lol but like you said it's a business we can't be too nice. Offloading Pearson while keeping the pick would've been preferable even if DeSmith is a slight upgrade at backup.

    Saves money in the long run by letting you play Silovs less. Play him less now and he'll make less money when they go to sign him someday.

    I'm okay with this trade. I'm trying to look at the situation from management's point of view and what I see is that they've done a good job with their prospects. They've been grabbing guys from NCAA, from Europe, from all these other places and those guys are doing all right from what we've seen since the summer. That gave them the confidence to lose the 3rd round pick. I don't believe Pearson could be a top 6 player from the time he's lost, surgeries, etc. I would never bet on a player to do well immediately after the surgeries, rehab, season lost that Pearson went through.

    The Canucks will really be in cap trouble once the Oliver Ekman-Larsson cap penalty kicks in. That combined with the Roberto Luongo's cap re capture will be really high.
    Pettersson's new contract could really handcuff the salary cap for the team.

    Meyers will be worth gold at the trade deadline and we will get much more back than we did for Pearson. Unless he over performs until then.

    Love that we traded Pearson and not Beauvillier, Garland, Boeser and yes I'm going to say it…Myers. I like all these guys WAY more than Pearson.
