Making the finals is an accomplishment. Obviously it hurts even more to not win the Cup once they get there, but winning three rounds is hard.
Also, Crosby had a fight in the preseason because Letang got double hit. The preseason. A 36 year old superstar who has had concussion problems.

Keefe can't coach the style of game you're talking about Steve. You can't expect a TEAM – not a few players added in free agency – to change their style of play without a coaching change. Keefe as a coach gets pushed around so of course the players do.

For what Matthews is getting paid, he should be scoring at least 1 goal every game and have 2 assists.
Klingberg was such a bad add. Rielly is probably thrilled watching him shart himself out there and steal his top pp opportunities.
Don’t know if acquiring one shutdown stud is the answer to their poor team defence though. Seems like a coaching issue to me. Look over at Philly, their blue line doesn’t look great but they’re 3-1 and have allowed 3 goals against in their 3 wins. Torts has them buying into team defence clearly. Keefe has been horrifically unable to do that pretty much his entire tenure.

if we have to watch Auston pull this team through the mud, it's going to be a very, very long season.
All night, Klingberg looked like he was reminiscing about a bad break up back in high school, passively playing hockey in the meantime.
Having some grit towards the end of bench does have it's benefits, although it definitely doesn't help with defending.
As far as I'm concerned, we aren't serious contenders and we haven't been in many, many years.
In my opinion, the only way this is going to change is to build the team's structure around it's defensive core; as well as picking up a goalie who is relatively reliable.

For me the best part about Leafs losses is seeing all the excuse-making made on the Sportsnet comment section, followed a day or so later by complaints from Leafs fans that they weren't higher on the latest power rankings. I've never encountered a fanbase that talks more trash with so little to justify it.

The Leafs need to acquire a player like a prime Marc Methot. A big physical dude that can play a shutdown role in the top 4, hit and fight, but salary wise they would need to move Nylander to make it happen(but they might get the aforementioned Dman AND a first rounder for Willy).Don't say to move Brodie, because he would need to be replaced, isn't worth a quality asset to other teams and they have no prospect to take his spot(yet). Reaves can fight and otherwise isn't useful whatsoever.
