I have actually thrown a player down like this myself.
The only difference was I didn't throw a check, he actually had his arm around my neck from behind.
Since he was shorter than me, I straightened up and he kept hanging on. He swung around to my front while still hanging on to me and I slammed him backwards into the ice.
Some of my teammates didn't actually appreciate what I did but in my defence, he went for my neck.

  2. Not even remotely dirty. Just got muscled off the puck. Can't take a hit

  3. Deserves a two minute penalty for tripping, thus it's not a clean hit.

As for the Matheson hit, that wasn't worthy of a suspension as far as I'm concerned. Should have been a two minutes roughing call as an absolute maximum and I don't even think that would have been completely fair. Matheson is finishing his check and playing hockey, he is even looking in the direction of the play not paying attention to Pettersson.

  4. Hope Podz comes back good as ever. It was hard to watch but I don't think the hit was as dirty as the Matheson hit on Petey. Matheson bodyslammed Petey to the ice with an intentional downward throw. Middleton didn't do that, at least. Podz just got caught falling backwards awkwardly.

  5. Nope, a bad hit from start to finish. Slew footing him with a throw down at the same time is not a legal hit at all. Should be suspend able every time.

  6. To sweep the legs one direction while sweeping the upper body the other way should be illegal.

  7. Slew foot and a pile driver to the ice. This should be a suspension for 15 games minimum. No place in the game for that

  8. They do sign paperwork that states they know they could get hurt or even die on the ice

  9. It's the slew-foot action once again. Same thing happened a couple of days ago to Erik Brannstrom in Ottwawa, when opposing players using in these cases their left legs to sweep the other opponents legs and then rotate them down into the ice, leaving the player with no chance to embrace or control themselves. Somehow people think that a slew-foot has to be something obvious to be a slew foot, like only a foot has to be involved, but using your lower legs, like your knee, to trip another opponent off balance at knee height is something extremely dangerous that the leagues has to look at. A more strict rule to slew-footing at the boards should definitely take place ASAP. Just look at 1:28, and look at the #67 left leg before impact, clear as day how obviously dangerous that is. This is also how Elias Pettersson got concussed in his rookie season.

  10. Has there been a suspension announcement?
Hockey is a rough, but in my opinion, clean sport. This can't be tolerated.

  11. This is just unfortunate. I don't see it as dirty at all. Its hockey intimidation, fighting and hard hits are completely a part of the sport. Hopefully Podkolzin lines up Middleton the next time they play.

  12. I still believe a players suspension is determined when the injured player is cleared to play. Although in career ending injuries I think the offending player should either have a ban, or if let's say it's a repetitive injury or more or less an accident the offending player should be suspended for at least half a season.

  13. This hit was pretty tame compared to the ones back in the seventies and eighties, back then it would probably draw a minor penalty.
