Lane Lambert should be fired immediately after this game the guy is a horrendous coach, you’re up two nothing in the 3 period everything going smoothly than you want to decide to change up lines made absolutely no sense
No kidding. Way too many mistakes. Can't hold a 2-0 lead which used to be isles bread and butter against better more skilled teams. The good-got a pp and sh goal. The bad-gave up three goals in less than 2:00 to fritter lead away. And bo not keeping puck in in ot leading to wings ot goal. And this isn't the same wing team of last 5-6 years that isles could beat 2-1, 2-0. Lane too dumb to know that and let isles try to get cute against faster younger team-a game isles will lose everytime. And 10 on a line with 14, 13? Just shows lane can shuffle fwds. around all he wants-it will still leave a weak link line out there. Inexcusable this big eyesore continues. And this shows just how much other teams like wings are now surpassing lou's run it back bunch making playoff hurdle even tougher. Of note-i loved the white unis at home. Too bad a hole bettman banned white jerseys at home all in the name of shitty dark ugly combos. Bettman is an out of date fool who needs to step down with the other out of date fool currently ruining isles. And isles just fkd away a crucial point against a rising east team.
That first goal should of never happened. Defense was sleeping

This is what you get with Lane Lambert. One good game, one bad game. He can't coach.
The roster sucks.
This has been going on for 5-6 seasons. Giving up leads late. No discipline. Lambert line shifts are becoming a joke. It's a shame because they played 2 good periods. I know Barzel is trying hard, but he's killing me. Again he shows flashes of greatness then follows it up with a give up in the worst place at the worst time. They either get a coach or trade away this roster at the end of the season. It's hasn't worked yet and I don't see it in the future.

Gil, if this is the present and future I do wonder whether I will see another Cup victory in my lifetime. The Isles took their foot off the gas at 2-0 and quickly gave up 3 goals. Overtime was an embarrassment. I did see some bright spots with Bo Horvat. Lee and Barzal need to be traded and a top to bottom management change. After this team either fails to make the playoffs or squeaks in and then loses in the first round, the question has to be asked what does the future of this roster look like. this team does not possess a single generational talent like Austin Mathews or Conor McDavid. I do think a great team can be built around Nelson, Horvat, and Sorokin. I would retain the 4th line and everyone else should get moved.
Detroit has turned it up in the third period a few times; did Islanders need to do more on defense in third period? would a forecheck in offense or neutral zone before defense back in own zone help to slow Redwings push in third period? also clear puck out of defense zone right away to beat forecheck?

I agree with what others have said here… Lambert needs to go… After Cal came out of the box, the LINES SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN CHANGED! Also, play Gauthier! Only because of Sorokin did we get a point out of this totally mismanaged by the coach! Also, Lee is not what he used to be… Way too slow and not contributing, and should be benched. And how about this… Switch Nelson and Horvat.
Here is what I'd do with the Forward Lines if it was up to me. I'd have top 3 play 15 to 17 minutes a game with bottom 10 depending on the PP or PK minutes as 12 is left over I think. I'd have Brock line be Top with Palm with Engvall. I'd only have Bo play with Barzal on the PP as neither scores 30 or 40 goals so can't have 18M together or 25M with Lee. Have Bo Center a line with Barzal centering another with guys on wing who can take faceoffs if they can't. The current lines don't work as can't really roll out all 4 as need to currently. I saw this was like 2 nothing then it was 2 to 1. Next thing I know it was tied at two then were trailing 3 to 2. When it was in OT I saw that with my Mom haha. I saw Jets OT as well but was following games on-line. I made choice to watch Leprechaun Marathon instead as knew would lose ;). Bull Durham I seen recently :).
Hey Gil. There was one goal Sorokin was screened by 2 Islanders. It was a seeing eye shot that Sorokin never saw.
It's clear Lane is unhappy with Barzals defensive play / puck management. He's close to a PPG, but he's the only top point producer who is negative in +/- (-2). Lane alluded to the problem in one of his post game interviews when he mentioned the benefit of moving a more defensive forward to the Horvat line.
I'm seeing progress in the Islanders game. Despite relaxing a bit and letting in 2 quick goals, they frustrated the leagues #1 offense for most of the game. They gave up more A+ chances than they should have, but for most of the game they maintained their defensive structure. I agree Bolduc isn't ready. I still feel a defensive prospect MUST be paired with a teams #1 defensive defenseman (Pelech), but Lane went with familiarity in Aho. Bolduc could have benefitted from more ice time with Pelech.
The defense which use to be solid years ago,has not be solid..Love Romanov but, he takes too many Penalties. One of Detroits goals had,I think Bolduc, turned every which way.
We had a Cup winning coach in Trotz. I could count on one hand the number of times we blew 3rd period 2 goal leads under his leadership. This is a common occurrence with Lambert. The solution…two words: Coach Q.

Hey Gil – I'm gonna keep this short and sweet Lane Lambert and his Incompetent staff are to blame for this loss and how this team falls apart nightly. Lou should of never been brought back and then this staff should of been sent packing if they wanna win unless our fans and ownership are fine with having just 4 Stanley Cups.
