So glad you mentioned Eklund on the third line bc I was shaking my head watching it at sap since it made absolutely no sense
Maybe Eklund on the 3rd line was to try to get the other 3rd line players going. The Eklund-Hertl-Zadina line was the Shark's best. They need some other lines to pitch in. I like Bailey's game. He hustles and has a big body presence.

The saddest part was they kept showing families and kids in the stands. This game must have been so sad and hard to sit through. It was hard to watch.
Painful to watch Sharks hockey season spiraling downward further. This team was built to lose by Mike Grier and fans can do nothing positive about that fact. 6 out of the 8 worst minus ratings in the NHL on December 29, 2023 are Sharks players (Zadina, Ferraro, Burroughs, Hertl, Kunin, Eklund), which means this team is the worst defensive team by the numbers. Sharks are trying harder defensively and showing some work ethic, but they are easily deflated or demoralized by bad turns of events on ice.. Bad referee calls, bad puck bounces, momentary lapses of Hockey IQ, opportunistic opponents who feed on downward momentum as team sinks on thin ice, and other negative blows just kill this team's spirit and motivation. They go into shock mode on the ice turning over puck and take bad penalties in response. They then beat themselves further in self-flagellation in after game interviews which show shocked coach and players apologizing for being so obviously bad on ice.
Why aren't podcasters and the sports media questioning Mike Grier about this team and its struggles? Should he be allowed to not own this disaster for fans and multiple extensive losing streaks? Will David Quinn quit because he cannot work with the player selections dumped on his watch by Mike Grier? How much responsibility does the general manager have for the team identity and noncompetitiveness of this group? Sharks injuries are worst in the league and there is no responsibility for that at GM level except to get better medical staff and rehab players faster if possible. "Built to compete" ideal of MG has turned into its dialectical opposite (built to lose) in order to be better built to win in distant future, when better prospects emerge. Sharks this season have become like a predictable horror b-movie: blood on the ice and broken teeth, beached whale, bloated and decomposing in front of suffering fans shocked by the horror story.
