First of all, happy new years.

From the WJC site: "In the semi-finals the best-ranked team – criteria: 1) placement in the group, 2) points in the preliminary round, 3) goal difference in the preliminary round, 4) goals scored in the preliminary round, 5) seeding coming into the tournament – will play against the lowest-ranked semi-finalist. The 2nd-best ranked semi-finalist will play the 3rd-best ranked semi-finalist. "
That sounds to me like teams are reseeded after the quarterfinals regardless of their group and then do 1v4, 2v3. The US is the top seed with 11 points and Sweden is the 2nd seed with 10 points so there's no way for them to play in the semis. Then again, I haven't slept other than a 15 minute power nap in over a day, so I could be misunderstanding things.
Don't want to sound like a jerk but that's not an excuse for Smith. When Makar played at WJC he was at the bench and I think he made it to the 1st line? My point is there are guys in the US team who were picked later and has less points in the NCAA and are still able to deliver more points than Smith. Usually the top tier players has more than 1 point per game. I'm not panicking but it doesn't look good and definitely makes me worried.
Any insight about the nature of Ferraro's injury? Is he out long term or day to day?
Love the channel and all the work you do from Portland! On another note, I was able to watch the Winterhawks last night and I really enjoyed watching Luca Cagnoni dictate the game last night. Not a great stats night for him (Vancouver's goalie was absolutely standing on his head) but he definitely made a massive impact in keeping the game in the offensive zone throuhgout.
