Also, let's get it straight Mr. Button. The construction of the team around the core is largely limited because of all the cap space that's devoted to the core. Hence, they don't have that elite defenseman and will never be able to afford one. They don't have a bonafide starter and won't be able to afford one. And they don't have a good bottom 6, like a shutdown checking line.
Constantly trying to fill out the roster with bargain basement players is never going to be good enough to construct a cup contending team.
There's also the fact that this team is terribly soft and immature. How they played the Kings in LA should be the blueprint for how they play every game. But yet, they don't do that every game. That's on the core, who are the leaders of the team, and on the coaching.

The issue is the previous GM ran this team into the ground and the cupboard is bare. There is no cap space or draft picks to go out and trade for impact players. It's going to have to be scrap heap type guys and hoping that they stick. The good news is you've got a GM who is good when it comes to those kinds of players (Gregor, Benoit, Lagesson, Martin Jones, Max Domi) so who knows?? This team needs at least 5 more dogs. Good luck.
