  1. Watching this breakdown I realize the Leafs played alot worse than I thought , and I originally thought they played like dog shite.

  2. Life time local Wings fan here. Even as a fan of the opposing team I’ll say that Samp did great all things considered. He absolutely robbed the wings several times.

  3. Sammy has always struggled with consistency since DC, but he isn’t on the whole a bad goalie. The time out of the limelight clearly helped and as much as the team on the ice hung him out to dry this game, it does seem the whole team was rooting for him, which is something he wouldnt get in other teams

  4. Sammy was let down this game for sure. Lots of mistakes by the Leafs left him scrambling to make huge saves.

  5. People are always so quick to blame the goalie, but let's be honest, 9/10 times it's the defense that's the real problem. Their job is to make on-the-fly judgements based on the choices being made by the people in front of them. If they can't rely on the defense to stop pucks from getting to the damn net, then there's no way they'll succeed.

I say this as an Oilers fan who's spent the first half of the season watching everyone blame Skinner for everything, and now that we got gud (understatement), they're real silent now.

  6. What pissed me off abt the game winning goal everyone is in front of him he couldn’t see a thing like omg

  7. Sometimes the attention of playing in a Canadian market like Toronto can have negative impacts for the player. Samsonov would probably flourish in a low-key market.

  8. The Leafs are hopeless, just face facts. They have 13 regulation wins, which is a similar number to Detroit or Montreal. They are absolutely NOT among the contending teams- period. Samsonov is just one more poor guy who somehow all of the sudden isn't good enough to play in Toronto- just like Puppa, Fuhr, Joseph, Reimer, Belfour, Toskola, Anderson, and many, many more. This is just not a very good hockey team, it's a good hockey team. And they make things worse on themselves with things like the coach blaming the fact that they blew a 3-0 lead (Now Colorado, that is a REALLY good team) on the fact that they didn't have enough power plays. So last night they get 3, go 0 for 3 and blow another lead. So who's fault is it now Keefe?

  9. First, he didn't go down to the AHL. He practiced with the Marlies once and he never played a game. Could the Leafs have scored more? Sure. But teams win by scoring less. The Leafs have won by scoring less this year. The Leafs did not let Samsonov down. That is nothing more than making excuses for a goalie that's lost his touch.. The Samsonov experiment is over. Fire Keefe and send Samsonov away with him. Drag Shanahan behind them.

  10. I honestly think moving one of the "Core 4" and/or Rielly is needed for this team to see any real meaningful change. Need a top pair defensive dman who's elite or just under to help the goaltending

  11. Save percentage is a good metric for measuring performance over the course of a season or 20 games or so but sample size is way too small for it to be all that meaningful in any given game.

  12. It's easy to dump on Sammy,, who's been nothing but incredibly brave bouncing back from that mental slump in no time, gives you the confort of not looking too hard at Keefe, Treliving and Shanahan. And much more so the latters, they finally had a decent defense end of last season and they decided to blow it up.

  13. That liligren giveaway was brutal considering Sammy had made a highlight reel save moments before. How can you have that kind of lack of awareness as a defenceman with 2 minutes left in the game. I know Sammy hasn't played his best this year but it doesn't help when his team plays like a bag of hammers in front of him.

  14. Look, Johnny Hawky I do agree with you be a bit easy on Ilya Samsonov. However, let's be realistic with the way he's playing let's see if they can get by the next round in the playoffs. Now that's what I'm worried about.

  15. This is on Sheldon, what the hell were those lines
Remember in November these guys were going to stick up for each other, and checks were being finished, didn’t last long did it? Leafs have the weakest defence in the league. Nylander gets a bag of money and reverts to his cherry picking ghost play. Zero points

  16. Look at all the top teams, then look at the Leafs. It's not hard to see what the Leafs are missing. They have very few defensive Dmen. After McCabe and Benoit, there isn't much D being played on the Leafs. The goalies will be fine when the D gets sorted out. Sammy was putting up Vezina numbers at the start of last year, he's good enough. Jones took the Sharks to the finals. He's good enough. The defense in front, no so good enough. Leafs best D man is Rielly. He's good, but he'll never be in the talks for a Norris. The top teams have D. Leafs don't. Also Keefe can go anytime. How many times can a coach be outcoached before you kick out the coach?

  17. i like how you said you don't wanna be overly negative then go ahead and be overly negative. lots of hockey left buddy and yes the d did let sammy down but are we forgetting the lefs just won 4 straights its okay they will be fine its a lilttle slump time to move

  18. the Leafs are the Dallas Cowboys.
    All anyone talks about.
But no matter how promising, they will lose. And when they do we will all just shake our heads and chuckle…Again.

  19. What's worse was that there was a fan from Australia who came to see Ilya Samsonov play.

  20. I was impressed with Sammy. He came back from a brutal start, and did his job with confidence. The leafs just don't look right out there. Too much sloppy hockey, from a team that should be dominating right now.

  21. Samsonov and leafs arent the only team fans do this to either. Most fans will blame the goalie despite some poor play from defenses. For example, Georgiev has been hated on by avs fans all year but dude is playing damn near ever game with maybe one or two game off and their defense has been shaky all year, yet no one even recognizes that

  22. Next to Mathew’s, they’ve spent a lot of money on guys that don’t make a worth while difference on the score sheet at the expense of the back end

  23. Poor coaching….putting Marner-Nylander-Matthews when your up 3-0 against the AVS is ridiculous

  24. Leafs been playing like shit since the beginning of the season. Half way into the season and maybe 5 of them were solid. Marner isn't doing too much this season. Willy still lazy and afraid of contact. Defense always making costly decisions. Don't expect much from domi he's just here for the free milli. Sammie overbites. And keefe too scared to give the team shit when they fuk up
