Good job by Hughes! 2 first round picks! Genius! I will miss this guy but he deserves a chance at a cup and I know he loves playing for the Habs! Our young guys have learned a lot from him and will improve because of it! Gonna be a lonnng test of the season lol but hey let’s get a good top 5 next year!

#1, why would they retain? He's paid 1.9 and is on pace for 60 points?
#2 if they don't win the lottery, whoever they pick won't be an impact play, if ever for that matter, until 3-4 years when that player is 21-22 years old. So that's not helping this rebuild, maybe good for there second rebuild when they've got a new GM by then.

Both Allvin in Vancouver and Chevy in Winnipeg were out ahead of the rest of the teams looking to bolster their lineups because they want as many extra games with their new players to try to finish as high in the standings as possible. That way if they finish on top of their divisions they get a wildcard team in the first round and home ice advantage for the first two rounds if they win. No flies on those two cowboys!

With 2 first round picks this year, Hughes has the chips he needs to move up in the draft order – even if it's only a spot or two higher – and get the elite scoring talent this team so badly needs.
Hearing lots of complaints about how we should have gotten a prospect as well, but we don't need anymore middle-six or bottom-six forwards, and certainly no more defencemen or goalies. We need elite scorers – and Highes is building the war chest to get one.
