Hold on your horses guys ! I believe Kent Hughes Chicken out ! In other they got what they want a first round guy but they give up much more in Sean Monahan than they receive.
We got 2 very late first pick for a little less than 8,5 M$ (6,5 M$ last year + < 2 M$ this year) but we got no players to help the habs right Effing now ! We are hoping Newhook came back ASAP to replace Monahan so Evans will become the third for now and stephans the 4th line center.
Hate to see him go would love to see him come back short term if they don't Trade for a center during the draft. Let's face it nobody wants to be in Winnipeg long

Winnipeg thinks hes a good center. Their GM rarely makes a bad move.

With the departure of Monahan there will be a bit of a leadership void in the room now. Still there is Gally and Matheson and a couple others will step up a little to keep the guys on track. Overall though, the team will suffer a little on the ice but hopefully the team rallies together. Hopefully, the Habs can package the Jets or Habs 1st rd pick and another player (D-man or two) to acquire a 1C or a 2C or a 1/2RW before or at the draft but it wont be easy to get an blue chip1C young player(22-24 years old).
They are gonna use the retention on Pearson….
Habs fan since 1959–in NJ,no less! I want to see this team win every game,every night. Losing Monahan was inevitable,as was losing Taffoli. Both excellent players and both with great character. I believe that romanticizing about Monahan coming back is a dead end. Don’t misunderstand—I would love to see it,but,that would not be fair to Sean. He deserves a Cup,or,at least the opportunity to get one. Just as with Lehkonen,I’d love to see it. Just wasn’t going to happen here-at least,for a while.
Monahan is a UFA at the end of this season, so he was really just a temporary patch, and he could even sign vack with the Habs again .

Two late first picks is really a second round pick in a draft that might not be great, I don't know.
Hughes has solidified a high first round pick this year for Montreal considering with Monahan the team only managed to win 11 regulation wins in the first 49 games they played this season. Only Chicago, Columbus, San Jose have those few wins in regulation time. Chicago only has 9 wins which is the lowest in the league.
Maybe the Habs will get the first round pick this yearn but please get someone who is a sniper or a playmaker player and not another defenseman.
I think the Habs will only win another 4 or 5 games in regular time for this season.
Perhaps the team will get lucky and get a diamond in the rough through trade or draft.
This is a good move for the habs moving forward. Monahan moves on and they got a 1st round pick. This was the best time to move him. He didn't get hurt and sideline any trade opportunities like last season

Really after lindholm deal everyone thought minimum they should get a 1st and the other teams #1 prospect. I think this was bad deal
