Its a late first round pick in a weak draft year and only makes Winnipeg better, win-win in my opinion.
its a deep draft not top heavy, they are going to rrade this pick for a bigger trade imo. Good deal for both teams. I think the injuries scared the teams a little bit

Winnipeg loses in the first round then you can ask the question. I the advance the good for them, the won the trade.
Anyone can get hurt on any shift. Valardi 3 games in got hurt (on a dirty play), yet when he came back was lights out. Monahan I think is a better fit than Lindholm (plus the Canucks gave up a lot, I think they way overpaid) for the linemates he'll have in Ehlers and Perfetti. The 1st pick was expected and the Jets can give it up because they have the 2nd from MTL from the PLD trade.
Also, Scheif will be healthy after the break.
The Jets wanted to see if Perfetti or Valardi could fill in the 2C role which looks at this time unlikely.
Also, anyone who thinks that the Jets would be a better team with PLD or Wheeler still on it despite leaving a hole at 2C which Vlad Namestnikov has been serviceable at isn't paying attention to the Jets. (not at critique on the creator) just a comment while yes they lack a 2C Scheif is an elite 1 C, Lowry is a beast at 3C and now Namestnikov can be the 4C and the Jets are deep at Center. Having PLD as he is not as we wish he was is a plus for Jets that he's in LA after the trade assets the Jets received.
Also, Monahan's price allows the Jets to go after a top 4 D man as well.
His plus minus is concerning. Checks a few boxes, faceoffs and pp and is big enough. 11 seasons and only 3 times had positive plus minus and he is -10 ATM.
Yah my Ducks are definitely getting a first round pick for Henrique by the Rangers or the Devils
Chevy is one of the very best GMs in the NHL. The Jets are very good in evaluating talent and usually do very well in trades.
I think it's a good trade for both teams. No clear winner
Winnipeg also has Montreal's second round pick as part of the PLD trade to LA last year. Gave up a low first rounder while still having Montreal's second
1st round pick is pretty good for the Habs
Short Term : No Question Winnipeg ! Montréal got nothing in return yet.
Long Term : It's too soon to tell.
