Ok …out on a limb here….(out of the box)….Toronto's 1st….to Washington to get O.V for the "rental"….Washington has to want to do it to give O.V a shot at another cup….and afterwards he can go back to Washington…if he wants to…( Washington will have to retain alot of this salary) but it would be a favor to O.V…for another chance….
This team is gonna get so caught up going all in AGAIN….more resources gone the clubs future could look pretty bleak pretty fast. Selling the future for the now hasn't worked for them yet. Pretty good video. McDavid v Gretzky is near impossible. Different lifestyles, routines, technology, not to mention Gretzkys impact on the game that led to McDavid playing the way he does and coaches teaching the way they do. On the surface McDavid is likely the better all round player, but in the age of enforcers, is McDavid getting through the neutral zone so easy? Gretzky was great because he read the game, not because of his skills, and that's what made him so mesmerizing. He shouldn't have been that good. As for Oilers trades, if I'm the GM, I'm looking for defense. I'm guessing it won't be a significant player though, more depth and maybe even a defensive center.

I think it'll be him and Reilly on the 2nd pair.. either way, not liking that it cost a 3rd and a 6th is absolutely moronic!! Listen, they got the right shot, physical D man they so desperately need.. AND they got him for 75% retained AND got him at a hell of a deal at just over $678,000 but most importantly it didn't cost them a roster player or prospect… yeah, likely a rental ( depending on what they do in the offseason) but a rental for well under $1 million AND only a 3rd (2025) and 6th pick (2024).. not like it's a big deal but Leafs also get rights to unsigned draft choice Kirill Slepets ( who really cares but it's another piece of the deal nobody is mentioning).. Leafs, and other teams, have paid a hell of a lot more for rental players.. Now, if this is the ONLY deal Trev makes, then I'll be more underwhelmed but I don't think it will be.. Time will tell
The reality is, this is the best the Leafs could do given what was available and what they could afford – $687,000 is cheap!. It's a body and right shot. It will have to do.
