  1. To qualify as a Hart, a player's contribution must be critical to the team.

    McDavid for the Oilers? No.

    McKinnon for the Avalanche? No.

    Kucherov for Tampa? Yes

  2. It would be awesome if all of them get the trophy! It suits the mentality of hockey imo. It emphasizes respect and appreciation of different ways to contribute to the teams success. All named players are just fantastic hockey players and unbelievably skilled.

  3. Seriously when someone is absolutely blasting everyone out of the water with singlehandedly scoring like animal he should be absolutely in hart conversation

  4. I mean it depends on how you view "MVP" if historical level play is what you lean towards then you'll probably say Matthews. If you're a "Captain consitency" you'll probably say kucherov. If you're a "the dude who is throwing his team on his back" guy then you'll probably say Mcdavid…. And if you value entertainment and drive to win, you'll probably say MacKinnon. All are a viable argument.

  5. No offense to Matthews but for it's the other three and I would even put Panarin in front of Matthews. Why? In a season where people say Draisaitl is having a sh!t season and Matthews is having a season for the ages: they're pretty much even on points. Also Matthews has like Nylander and Marner on his team which are great players aswell. Meanwhile someone like Kucherov is carrying the Bolts to playoffs. Matthews is one heck of a player but for me not in the MVP conversation right now.

  6. I think McDavo wins the Art Ross, Kucherov wins the Hart, Matthews wins the Rocket, Hughes wins the Norris, Helleybuyck wins the Vézina, Bédard wins the Calder, McDavid wins the Ted Lindsay, Matthews wins the Selke, Don Waddell wins GM of the Year, Tocchet gets the Jack Adams, McDavid wins the Mark Messier Leadership award and finally, Samsonov wins the Masterton.

Feel like all of those are fairly safe bets other than the Masterton who just goes to whoever the writers think had the best season. The only reason I think Matthews will win the Selke is because they won’t give him the Hart, other than those two though, I feel safe with my picks; even if they end up being way off, I feel confident as of the time of this writing that they will be good 👍

  7. I don’t think Matthews wins the hart for having the most goals in the league. The NHL already has a trophy for that. Also he’s been neck and neck with Nylander in terms of point production all season, so although he’s an extremely important player he’s not carrying the leafs like the others in the hart race are.

  8. in the NBA its usually given to the "best player on the best team". In which case it would be Panarin. He also has like 40 points more than the second highest scorer on the team. similar argument for Pastrnak. Also, I'm always skeptical when a team has a solid 1-2 punch like McDavid/Draisaitl or McKinnon/Rantanen or whatever. Its not really one guy carrying the team.

  9. This is easily the best hockey channel on YouTube, possibly ever. I send your vids all the time to friends who've recently discovered hockey so they can learn more about the game and keep up with the season. Thank you

  10. To me MacKinnon and McDavid are just on another level. They're the strongest players by far. Do they contribute most for any team's success? Imo yes. (And that should also be the precise definition of regular season MVP imo.) So I don't care too much about the 1st-to-2nd-best-scorer-gap on their team if the team overall is pretty strong and the guy gets a ton of pp-toi/gp like Kuch. Yes MacKinnon has more pp-toi/gp (McD less), but MacKinnon has 41 even strength goals (Kuch 30), also the speed, zone entries, oz-time as shown in the video by McD & MacK are on another level. To me the two are almost equal, but I'd give it to the guy who hasn't got one yet, although as a player McD still got the edge as most impactful imo. From a leafs perspective (not league wide) I'd throw Samsonov in the convo, but i know a goalie's not gonna make it, especially one who's struggled first. I think there was a long stretch this season until very recently where he's won them game after game, when the Leafs weren't stable yet. Guy really stood on his head so they weren't punished every time for mistakes, which allowed them to gain more confidence. That's another mvp-worthy accomplishment. But yeah, it's MacK for the Heart. Matthews 66 is nice, 69 would be even nicer! Sammy was equally important to the team's W-record (so many OT-steals too where he's been phenomenal).
    MacKinnon or McDavid it is.
