It's hilarious the over credit Berube gets because of ONE instance of taking a team, and going to the cup. Sure, it's impressive. What it is not, is a proper sample size of his coaching abilities.
If the guy is the amazing x factor everyone seems to think he is, why did he get fired from the team that he took to the cup?

Just hire a leafs fan to coach the team. It’ll be a lot cheaper for the same results of a big $$$$ coach.
Matthews is the problem. Team plays better without him. He’s a selfish player.
I think it's great you said that Sutter would be really funny. I was thinking the same thing. Even if Sutter came in for one year to give them a major kick in the ass, it would have been amazing. 🙂
They needed someone better the Canes coach is only one i can think of that would give leafs a chance of waiting until after spring to fall 🍃

Berube is exactly the guy the Leafs need. Even though I was kind of 'shipping' if you will the idea of Brind'Amour coming to the Big Smoke – the former blight of Toronto during his playing career – I knew that one was a very outside possibility. But Berube is a great alternative and I'll be looking forward to see what personal touches he brings to the team next season. Let's go!
Personally we needed Berube here, he's known for being a no nonsense, no guff coach and I expect great things for him, this is a good first step but only a first step right now.
Yep, the search for a COMPETITIVE TEAM has begun AGAIN. Let’s see what kind of job ‘Tre’ can do knowing that he needs much IMPROVED ‘D’ and MOST CERTAINLY top flight goaltending AND a Return to contracts that DON’T PAY FOR WHAT MIGHT BE COMING. However I had similar thoughts when the Shanahan era began. Up to now his philosophy with regards to team building are DRASTICALLY FLAWED…
If the Chief can bring that Sauce to Toronto akin to Rick Tocchet in Vancouver it'll be a fun few seasons to watch the Leafs.

There needs to be serious management changes other than this. I like Berube BUT St Louis has a great AHL to NHL system.
Toronto has shown time and again that they can't develop talent. Trading Carter Verhaegue for a bucket of pucks is as bad as trading Tuuka Rask for same.
Toronto's AHL to NHL pipeline has produced Reilly, Lily, Woll in the last 10 years.
For comparison, Tampa's 3 time cup run had 13 players who were developed through their system. And that doesn't include players that left after winning a cup or two like Yanni Gourde or , yes, Carter Verhaegue.
