No one can be happy with this news but to be frank i feel Kakko is being utilized wrong just like Lafreniere was prior to the new coach and now Lafreniere is a floating sniper and down the middle he creates great chances. I feel Kakko will surprise many and remember I stated this.
Sighing him fast does make him a bit easier to move is also the only positive I take from this. I think while he's in NY what we see, is what we get at this point. I'd love for him to make me eat crow though.

Now we need to lock up igor long term. Make him a Ranger for life. I know its harder to do in the NHL with the hard cap but he deserves a long term deal. Once we take care of the contracts of our FAs to be first then we can concentrate on the other free agents out there. Also I'm not sure how deep the draft will be and what positions we need but i say its time to see what othman can do and send rempe back to the minors to develop into a more rounded player. He did show signs of growth in the playoffs but let him develop out of the pressure cooker that is the Garden.
I’m really hoping this is just to make him easier to trade Kakko ain’t a fit for the bottom 6 on this team and he sure as shit ain’t a fit for the top 6 I think it’s way different than Laff Laff I always thought looked pretty good even when not producing I always thought he looked like he was not far from figuring it out Kakko confidence I think is destroyed and I just think he has a bad mindset and I think if you put Laff with Mika and Kreider he would still produce unlike Kakko Laff has proven he can drive play and finish plays
I know he’s only 22 but I just don’t think he can change his style it’s too ingrained in him and I think his style won’t lead to success on this team like Laff thru all the ups and downs always had that physical aspect which I think helped him become a top line player on this team and Kakko seems like his skating puck handling shot and passing have all gotten worse as we’ve went on when in Laff case he’s gradually gotten better in all areas as we’ve went on Kakko has to go can’t wait anymore for a 3rd liner on the team to figure his shit out and Kakko and Chytil get hurt so easily it’s time to get rid of them and get some real bottom 6 players

I was ready to see him go but I'm not upset about a one-year deal this puts all the pressure on the player to perform. It doesn't perform he'll either get traded mid-season or he does perform and we can lock him up longer turn. He was very clear in his end of season presser the GM I'm talking about that it's time to give him his turn to blossom. Maybe it will be a bigger role next year.
