#njdevils #yaroslavaskarov #nashvillepredators #stevenstamkos #johnathanmarchessault

Maybe
Devils are not making this move.
Tom Fitzgerald made his bed.
Absolutely. This could be a great move. If you don’t have a franchise goalie locked in long term, and one is available, you go get him. I wanted the devils to draft Askarov.
100% we should; trade every goalie we have. But seriously, trade a 1st, shamus Casey and palat with salary cap retention but nothing more
No if the asking price includes Simon Nemec
The Devils aren't getting Askarov. They already have Markstrom & Allen, and they're not trading any of them.
If the deal can be made and it's not going to cost a key piece of the NJ roster, then absolutely it's a trade that should happen. Casey would make a very reasonable centerpiece of a trade. It's not often that you can get someone with the talent and ceiling of Askorov so if you can make it happen, you do what you can to make it happen. NJ is also one of the few spots where Askorov would have a future in the NHL as the starter without having to wait more than a year.
The Devils already have 5 goalies in the pipeline and while none of them are Askarov yet, the franchise is betting one of them will be. Fitz will want to keep all his draft picks for a potential playoff push trade this deadline and even Askorov's $925,000 will eat into what Mercer would make and as you stated, The President don't have cap space to take Mercer.
100%! While we have good goaltending for the next 1-2 years, there’s no guarantees moving forward. Casey + a decent pick should do it.
Any team should grab this guy, i dont understand why Nashville didnt make him the back up behind Saros, it will come back to haunt them later on while this kid is a star, i wanted the Leafs to draft him but Nash had the higher pick that year. who will win the Askarov lottery should be fun to see who gets him.
I'm also excited for a Devils new look defense. Dont forget about Johnathon Kovecevich. If Siegs or Simon play like crap he will step in take over. It would be great to get Askarov. I have to look at his highlights.
Great work keeping us dev fans updated on what’s happening. Easy to lose track now that were deep into summer holidays
Thanks "HSD" for scratching our pucks itch in the midst of a heatwave. His age is interesting, Askarov is a kid and you touched on all the reasons why Fitzgerald would be smart to bring him into the Devils mix. You also mentioned, the asking price from Barry will be and should be high. FINALLY, New Jersey, whose club identity historically is goaltending and defense, the fact that they are actively addressing this issue is good for the organization and the league. I miss the shut it down, physical New Jersey Devils, not the smallish, finesse orientated run and gun club we have witnessed in recent years. Bring back Devil Hockey, you have a tradition in Jersey now and worked hard to establish that identity, don't waste it, like my team's tradition of winning a Cup once a century! Seriously, you represent the Devils fan base and the US hockey fan consistently well on your channel "HSD", keep it up.
I wouldn't give up Nemec for him (or equivalent). Only because goalies can be uncertain. If they ask for a bit less, something like Daws, Hattaka, and our likely to be late 2025 furst round pick, i can see it.
This type of player is exactly who you trade good prospects for.
