  1. The Faber contract is sooooo BAD.
One decent season and the kid is gifted 8 years at 8 mil per! Just a terrible contract.

This contract REEKS of a trash franchise in desperate need for "superstars" to sell jerseys, merch, & hopefully ticket sales.

No real serious legitimate franchise that is competitive or ready for a Cup run would never sign this garbage contract.

Luke for all his success, played terrible defensively last season. While we all expect him to be the Stud 1A defenseman one day, you cant pay young players solely on hopes & dreams.

Luke will get paid and will get paid handsomely sooner than later.
It just will not be today.
Luke has a long way to go to earn 8 x 8.

  2. I honestly hate contracts like these because they're such a gamble. Yeah both had good rookie seasons, but there's no guarantee they continue to get better or Luke's numbers don't drop since he's not going to be a top pairing D this season.

  3. According to the athletic, the Devils own some of the best contracts in the NHL: Jack Hughes, Jesper Bratt. They got those contracts which at that time seemed risky by betting on the upside of these players. With the cap going up and projected to continue to rise, I think it’s a no brainer.

  4. I am hoping Luke considers a hometown discount. Nemec is going to need to be paid, too. I think both Mercer & Nemec will get some type of bridge deal.

  5. Been the current trend to sign the young star players long term. It is a gamble but Luke Hughes will probably continue to get better defensively as he develops as his brother Quinn did in Vancouver. Hope Fitz can get Luke to sign a more team friendly deal than Faber did for the Wild.

  6. Yeah I've seen writeups suggesting it's going to be 68 x 8 for a couple months now. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Nico was 50 x 7 and Jack 64 x 8, Jesper Bratt 63 x 8. Like you said it's always a gamble on someone who is still developing and not fully proven but the other side is waiting too long and having to pay more or search for a replacement. It's a very talented team and I hope the recent moves have muscled them up enough on D to be a threat against anyone for the next few years. We will also see if Daws makes it and they were right about dumping Schmid. Exciting times for NJD fans !!

  7. Did none of yall learn from hating on Jacks contract?!

I'm hoping Fitz can get Luke to middle Quinn's 7.8m and Jacks 8m, 7.9m for 8 years would be a fantastic deal that will have us laughing at Toronto fans (and other poorly cap constructed teams) for years.

  8. It is what it is. Luke is gonna stay with jack and take the appropriate contract. I’m thrilled to have him here. I’m more concerned with locking in the right long term young goalie …
