Zadorov has been a disappointment so far.
this fan base crazy 5 games in and its panic mode
I agree. For his size he really doesn't play that physical.I through he'd defend or get into fights for teammates.
Utah game was disappointing, but lets be clear, the first 2 periods against the Avalanche was the best hockey they’ve played thus far
Of course the Bruins start on defense his year has been disappointing, however, it’s not like this should come as a big surprise for two very clear & obvious reasons
One, the Bruins weren’t very good at 5×5 defense last season. In fact, the Bruins were either middle of the pack or bottom of the pack in just about every meaningful 5×5 defensive stat last season
Two, not only did the Bruins not add anything to their defensive corps that’s good defensively. They actually brought a guy in Zadorov who isn’t very good defensively and who takes a crap ton of bad penalties
Their d-corps is living off a reputation of years’ past and not being properly judged on what the talent level actually is today and what the players have actually been doing on the ice these past two years on defense
Lohrei, Lindholm and Zadorov: All bad defenders.
It’s true that all three all also bring other “good” things to the table but we aren’t talking about those other things, we’re talking defense and defensively, all three are below average guys
Peeke: Average, 3rd pair d-man that tends to get banged up too frequently
McAvoy and Carlo: Both Top 4 guys but both have been widely inconsistent these past two seasons. McAvoy had his worst year as a pro last year and his start to this year hasn’t been great. Carlo was actually better than McAvoy last year but this year, he’s off to yet another one of his inconsistent starts to
What else do they have on defense? Um, a limited #7-#8 in Parker Wotherspoon and then nothing on the Farm.
And before the Don Sweeney Apologists start in with the Jackson Edward or the Frederic Brunet crap
Don Sweeney has made 37, 3rd – 7th round draft picks since 2015 when he became GM nearly 10 years ago
The NHL Games Played Leader on Defense taken by Don Sweeney from rounds 3-7 since 2015, across 37 picks?
NO ONE!!!
Not a single d-man Sweeney has ever drafted in rounds 3 to 7 has ever played an NHL shift. So again, before Bruins homer nation screams Edward or Brunet…
Both were late round guys. Brunet (5th round), Jackson (7th round)
So you might want to take a look at historical NHL draft hit rates on 5th to 7th round draft picks (it’s called about less than 10% make it and only about 5% have real NHL careers)
Then you MUST take a look at the fact that Don Sweeney himself has never drafted a d-man in 10 years as GM in rounds 3 to 7 that has ever played a single NHL shift, so I'd temper your expectations about Edward or Brunet
So Bruins also have no depth in Providence at defense and 4 of the 7 d-men they are carrying on the big club roster are below average defensively, even if 3 o those 4 offer other positive things
They didn’t change the forward group defensively other than adding Lindholm who should help to a degree but not exponentially. .Other than that, what did they do to ensure the defense was better in their forward group this year at 5×5? Um nothing else.
Jones and Kastelic are big, aggressive guys and bring positives to the ice but neither is going to be confused with a stalwart defensive forward
So let’s review
-The Bruins weren’t very good defensively at 5×5 last season
-The Bruins did nothing on defense in the offseason but bring in a guy in Nikita Zadorov that actually isn’t a good defender
-The Bruins didn’t really do much to ensure defensively they were much better in their forward group this year versus last year Sure, Lindholm helps but how much can he turn the tide?
And now the Bruins, with the same personal essentially as last year, except actually adding a below average defender in Zadorov, have started slow on defense at 5×5 again this year. And folks are surprised? Um, Bruins homers and Don Sweeney Apologists, you shouldn’t be
They stunk last year at 5×5 defensively and Sweeney didn’t do anything of significance in the off-season to change that reality so what has happened, they stink defensively at 5×5 yet again this year, at least so far
This isn’t a shock. It was kind of predictable if you were actually paying attention. Also, the Bruins 5×5 offense, beyond puke inducing so far this season too, but that’s a whole other story 🤣
Seriously? We are only 5 or 6 games into the season and Swayman only signed a day or two before the start of the season. Chill. Relax. It will get better!
I'm in the middle of watching the Bruins game right against Nashville now and I can say one thing out of the years of watching the Bruins play the only time I've seen Bruins players play like this is when they've quit on the coach I don't know why Max Jones is even out there multiple penalties called against him and he's done absolutely nothing to be on the ice little Z is a penalty machine. This game against Nashville is even worse. 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ the bruins paid all this money to be worse than last season?!?!. Smh.
