I'll say 100% I thought OV was done….. And then the hockey gods say, "hold my beer"
Just beat the Islanders. Tha boys are rolling.
Your style of thumbnail is elite
Record or not, Gretzky is way better than ovi
Given theyve been playing well without him, and others like Strome and Chychurn picking up their game i think they will be fine monus the Gr8. And i do think he breaks the record this year. He was averaging about 2 goals every 3-4 games and i think he jumps right back into that pace after the holidays.
Alex's performance in the 2023/2024 Season profoundly suffered from the fact he lost his father in February 2023 and their relationship was a close one.
We also didn't make the Playoffs last year as much as we wound up in them because Pittsburgh and Boston laid eggs in their final games. Teams that truly MAKE the Playoffs have earned their spots, but we didn't have any business being there.
honestly i knew the caps were gonna do better than they did in the last 2 seasons because we all know the reason why ovi's numbers were down last season was cause he was still in pain deep down after losing his father in February 2023 and has developed some closure as of now and also the team has better goaltending and depth to work with.
you look like gypsycrusader
It's hard to tell Tbf but i think the Caps could make it all the way to R2 Or The conference finals.. That depends if they dont Bump into Carolina in Round 1 Or 2..
it will be killing ovi sitting out missing out on all those empty net goals which is all he scores these days
I agree with the vid but also call me crazy he did kinda have to switch sticks because ccm stopped making the one he used not saying that’s the main reason but I imagine it was one of the factors great vid man you just got a subscrible
Call me crazy but losing ovi for a month is going to beneficial for a hopeful playoff run. they’re scoring in bunches with out him and are 2-2, giving him rest at his age is probably a huge benefit for the longevity of the season
Go crapitals !
Ovechkin might break the goal record, but isn't one of the top 100 players ever to play the game. Sad really.
I know it’s early but I’m getting 2018 vibes about this team
A virtually unknown topic surrounding Ovechkin's slow first half last year was an equipment issue. He couldn't get a consistent flex/curve balance with his stick and he went through several designs trying to find the right measurements. Even moreso than any undisclosed injury or his father's passing, it was obvious at which point in the season he finally got that part of his game figured out and that continued into the start of this season.
2:43 was not because of an injury it was a combination of personal issues (having his father pass away) and hockey issues with trying to find a new stick for the first half of the season after the one he was used to was discontinued.
As a caps fan, i’m interested to see if they make a big splash at the trade deadline
Not talking about Ovi, at all, for a minute. This team is doing things that previous years' teams have not done, or wouldn't do. They are not sitting on 2 goal leads as much. They are attacking the boards. They are coming back from 2 goal deficits. There is a drive and effort I have not seen in quite a few years. I'm excited for this new (style) team.
Even though it's been sparse, iirc the caps have historically done well in Ovi's absence. If they can keep the pace and keep the faith i think they make it deep.
64 goal differential, not 50 -37 to +27 is 64
One thing about ovi that makes him great when he relied on slap shot and hits he was working on other aspect of the game like wrist shot and redirecting the puck, when he came to the league he didn’t had those tools and now it’s paying off for him, and he matured on his tactical hits and makings runs without the puck and taking spaces so others can pass and score! That when I saw ovi was great when he humble himself in the midst of young athletic career in mid 2008 and slowly was working on other aspects of the game!
I believe in the squad this year!
Great analysis and review. After a dozen or so watches I’m now a subscriber! Caps got a BIG steal getting Chycrun and the low cap of the goalie tandem has afforded them two maybe three gap fixes from last season and they’re taken advantage of it. A team that fights for each other wins together!
This narrative that the Capitals only cared about the goals record is just butthurt Canadian nativist gibberish coming from lying jealous Crosby fans. Meanwhile, Crosby's Penguins sacrificed 8 of their most recent 12 first round draft picks and they have jack squat for future players.
His production really fell off since being injured
NHL fans look for various reasons why Ovi's goal scoring slump at the start of 2023 season occurred. Too old, still mourning his father, etc. Do a deep dive into his hockey sticks! His stick manufacturer stopped making the model he always used as they tried to come up with the "next thing." Once Ovi was able to get a reasonable facsimile of the stick that has proven so lethal for him he went on an immediate heater to end the season. He now has a custom stick manufactured to his specifications and the man is back to filling nets with pucks.
GMBM built a flawless team over the offseason. Thompson, Chychrun, Roy, PLD, Mangiapane, Duhaime and Raddysh have all been improvements from last years roster and they all commit to team wins. And the fact that the team is a lot younger and much more aggressive in every aspect, along with the push to break Gretzky's record everyone seems fired up.
