Yeah, I agree. I will never get over the Jake Wallman trade. Two things we are severely lacking this year is a defenseman who could do great breakout passes, and one who can score. And giving him away with a second for absolutely nothing makes no sense. I love Stevie, but I cannot defend him on this trade.
Don't worry. After Lalonde is done with him, bringing Cossa up will end up looking stupid too.
Sharks fan here. Walman is EASILY our best defender. His impact has been huge. Thanks, Yzerman!
The Wallman trade, the attempted Trouba trade and the Holl signing are reasons I stopped believing in Yzerman
we were strapped under the cap due to Raymond and Seider getting deals. Gonna be another year or two until Sandin Pelkla and Cossa are truly acclimated. Wallman produces in the Offensive zone but gets burned alot in the D zone. Give it time Wallman wasent gonna be here when we actually got good anyways. He was just a Bandaid like Chariot, Petry, Copp. All there contracts will be up when its time to sign someone real and a lot of the prospects are on the team anyways. Wallman will be a thing of the past soon enough
I hated the move before, and hate it more and more as time goes on. Wallman should be a Wing and while I'm happy for him to be doing well, I don't like seeing it be done wearing teal.
Edit: Side note, SJS is even my personal second favorite team and I still dislike this.
Imagine if we still had Walman in our top 4. I will never get over this trade. This is Yzerman's worst move as the Wings GM.
Walman was horrible defensively. Small and not physical at all.
Why are so many people clicking on these videos and commenting to stop overreacting? Just dont watch 😅
It was bad when Steve made the Trade all he has made this yr is bad trades
Buddy wings fans don’t care about Wally he wasn’t a Team player . Larks addressed this at the beginning of the season when he said the people who weren’t team players and didn’t want to put it all out there are gone that got addressed this off season . Direct shot at no back check Walman
8:26 it's not that simple, but what happened was Yzerman wanted to resign them. Illitch said no, he doesn't want to pay them, Yzerman has his hands tied because Chris Illitch took over after his dad passed, and he does not care about what makes the team good because he is greedy for money. That's why the stamkos trade didn't go through, that's why skubal on the tigers does not have a contract locked in for next year. Not too many people are talking about this, and it should be addressed. The only way anything is going to change is if Yzerman says screw this, I'm out, quits, and then the philosophy will start to change.
San Jose fan here , all I can say is Thank You 🤝 🎉
"struggling" is not at all how id describe cossa's development. He had a great year last year, better than walstedt, is having a great year this year, again better than walstedt who everyone likes to compare him to. He's had to ADJUST to each new level he reaches, and he has at every step of the way. He's never "struggled". That tends to happen when you go from kids shooting on you to professional men in a span of 2 and a 1/2 years. would be like sayig vasy "struggled" because he got lit up his 1st 20 games he played and we all know how that turned out.
yzerman really gave away a good player because he didn't like his celly lol
The Yzerplan is nothing more than a dart-throwing, spit-ball-and-hope-something-sticks “plan”. I think he played one too many games without a helmet.
They traded him to make room for Stamkos but Chris Illitch wouldn’t confirm the 4th year… so Stamkos signed with Nashville. Unfortunately Walman was the guy that matched the money and the fact he was a healthy scratch for much of the last part of the season.
Listen I will give Yzerman all of the credit in the world for what he did when he was a player for the Wings, He was a great player but as the GM of the Wings a lot of his off season deals have to be questioned. I blame Yzerman for this team. I don't think Lalonde is a head coach either.
I disagree. Walman was not part of the future. He was eventually going to go anyways. It just happened to be that day.
Walman antics wore out his welcome in the lockeroom. He was disruptive and nobody liked him.
We should have signed Shayne too. Who cares about holl, petry, and chariot
Not an ounce of panic. Team’s been bad and it won’t surprise me if their struggles continue.
I always laugh when the prospect writers deliberately leave out that Cossa is already 22 when calling him the future number one of the team. Everyone is over-valuing this team’s prospect pool.
The trade wasn't because he wasn't good, it was because they needed cap space.
Idk what's worse you and your stupid af friends thinking Walman is gonna come anywhere close to that projected point total or you and your friends thinking keeping Walman over Edvinsson and cap space is somehow more valuable to Detroit. durdurdurdur 'what a steal' wAlMaN4Norris. SJ has one good start in 40 years and somehow they think they've found the next Karlson steal in Jake Walman. You can have your fools gold. I'll take Edvinsson, ASP and a free agent over Walman and maataa any day of the season.
Jake Wahlman was a steal.
If Detroit tanks, the #2 pick will be more valuable too!
SY has made a lot of bad contracts. We thought that bad contracts were just a Holland era thing. We won because Mr. I was willing to spend his way to the top. Reality was, he totally failed the salary cap era, the Wings went backwards. Now, SY is showing us that his time at TB was luck…
I could really care less about Walman. He’s not in the big picture. People
Need to quit crying.
I'm a huge Yzerman fan. But the Walman trade is the worst, most embarrassing trade since the Quincey trade. And I think the Walman trade is even worse. If it wasn't for the Adam Oates trade, it might be the worst in franchise history.
The Wings have no grit on d. They swing sticks and push players but oh how they need a few kronwall type checks to make a statement to the league that carrying the puck over the blue line will cost you. We just skate backwards and swing away while not blocking most shots but blocking the goalies view. Getting rid of Shayne Gostobeher was just plain stupid. I regret getting NHL center ice this year. Oh by the way the reason we have the fewest goals is because the other team has it in our end racking up shots and goals. Do you notice when we get in a fight we play better? Humble view on a boring wings season.
Wallman has fit in extremely well and reportedly very much gelling in the locker room
Yeah the Walman trade may be the blunder of the year for the wings 🤦♂️ closely followed by letting LaLonde keep his job.
Yzerman should be fired for the team he put out there. What a way to step backwards
I lived through the Darkness of Harkness era. Yzerman has been a bust as Wings GM.
Wallman and Seider were comfortable with one another and got my excited as hell when the other one scored. Breaking that up was dumb
They should have kept Walman and tried to dump that bum Chiarot.
Man, some people here need to get a grip. Walman is good “for the team he’s on”…. I think the Wings miss his personality more than his turnovers and poor decisions on the rush.
Defensemen is not a trouble area for the Wings*
Yes Petry is an idiot that must go, Chiarot is no comment… bit really, it’s the LACK OF SCORING not the d that has us here in the spot we are.
The Walman trade is the last thing from a candidate for worst trades of all time.
Good lord.
Get. A. Grip.

Sharks fan here. You can’t have him back
Clearly there was a reason why Walman was moved. I'm not happy that we gave away a second rounder in addition to the player for nothing (so far, anyway — some sort of favor will come back our way eventually), but you have to think there was a reason for it. I wish him well in SJ though.
