Wild were already legit AF
I think its better than it could have been. I think both "win" the trade. Lots for Bluejackets will depend on who they will pick with the picks they got
It just seems so early to give up on a 6th overall pick from 2022. Columbus really had a place on boot hill for him. I hope he proves them wrong.
Likely a win for Jiricek. Columbus doesn't seem to have much in terms of development and support. As Steve mentioned, he's still young and most players aren't Norris candidates at 20. If he's got a solid foundation (he should since he was drafted so high), let him develop in your AHL club (which is what they are for) so he can improve his skills and continue to grow (physically, mentally). It doesn't look like Minnesota's AHL club (Iowa Wild) is overly successful (in terms of record), but hopefully they have good staff and resources to develop the players for the big club. The kid just turned 21 and is a 6'3", 209 lb right shot defenseman. You can't teach that, so if he's already decent at playing hockey, work with him. I like the deal for Minnesota, as long as they can develop him.
6:48 😅lol is this like a news cast Steve Dangle??? @spdn 😂
How are Columbus so consistently bad at developing talent? It's baffling how many quality prospects they've given up on or mishandled.
The Connor Dewar trade tree grows!!!!
No one wants to live or play in Ohio place sux
Because Jiricek is still very much unproven, so the question becomes: Would you trade FOUR of your top-4 picks for a 6th overall pick?
I hope the Flyers offered Drysdale for Jiricek, even just as a joke. He was enough for the 5th overall pick, so surely he'd be enough for the 6th overall pick, right?
I miss the Deweys, as we calked Duhaime and Dewar. Nice kids with a ton of heart! Dewar has a knack on the PK of breakaways…sneaky speed. Duhaime, always ready to mix it up, drop the gloves and throw down…
Looking forward to a Minnesota-San Jose WCF in a few years.
Jiricek has flaws he's 21 and has potential similar how jets fans view Heinola. But if you were to offer a 1st+2nd+3rd+Daemon Hunt a 22 WHL guy for Heinola or Salomonsson I'd take it. You can't judge this trade until 2-3yrs from now when you find out who the 1st/2nd/3rd turn into.
It definitely seems like a good deal for jackets imo it's a Chevaldayoff move fans won't like it rn but when those 2/3 picks contribute with Mataychuk,Svozil,Elick,Cuelemans,Dumais,Fantilli,Sillinger,Johnson ect that's the time core going forward.
It's kind of worrying that a team is giving up on a 21 year old they drafted 6th overall. Either they know something we don't or this is borderline self sabotage. Lol.
Damn… Really wanted my Nucks to go get him!
The Wild have pulled off a heist here. They would have to trade up 10+ spots into at least the top 15 to get a RHD remotely resembling Jiricek in this draft, which likely means paying two 2nds in addition to their 1st for a player that would be 3+ years away from being ready.
This will go down as the Herschel Walker trade of the NHL
Jiricek can't skate well and he's tall & skinny – he's a giraffe out there. Saw him in person when the Leafs played in Columbus last December (the game where Samsonov couldn't stop a beach ball). He looked stiff and uncomfortable. Problem was he was insisting he's NHL ready when he's not. He couldn't beat out the corpse of Jack Johnson for playing time on the 3rd D pair.
Maybe he fills out over time and becomes a reliable skater. But it wasn't happening in Columbus. Waddell's not attached to him – he wasn't Don's pick – so deal him at his max value for a bunch of assets.
As Jackets’ fan … I was saying exactly the same thing as Steve until the last minute before the trade. No need to do this trade. He was in the AHL where he belongs. Its not Wadell’s job to cater to every whim of these kids. It didn’t matter if Jiricek “felt” he was ready for the NHL. One more year of big minutes on a good, winning Monsters team wouldn’t hurt him in any way except his and Walshes wallet.
The return is low 1st in a bad draft year + irrelevat garbage. THIS was the best offer on the table? I wanna kick Wadell in the “Steve Danglers”.
The answer for "What happened David Jiricek with the Blue Jackets" is simple; the GM (and presumably the scouting staff) that drafted him are gone. The new guys in town didnt like him as much.
If Jiricak is worth that, just imagine what Mailloux is worth?
The winner of this trade? Easy, Denton Mateychuk.
I would of liked the leafs to have thrown they're hat in the ring
Remember when the isles gave up on Nino their 5th overall. Wild picked him up
And he turned out to be really good nhl player
I hope you do ask Adam….
I started off by thinking Mateychuk and Svozil, but finding out that these 2 Columbus dmen are left shooters, unless Columbus is going to play them on right side, then Columbus has Ceulemans – another first round pick selection, and Clayton, both hanging out in Cleveland and both under 24.
This is a high pick and he wants to earn some of the bonuses in his contract. Only makes 82,000 in the minors. Seems like his agent did a lousy job not getting more money for AHL play. It is surprising that more teams could not have offered as good or better deal. It is a little baffling for a RD of this caliber to go so cheap. Hell Toronto could have offered a better deal with CBJ needing goalie prospects or RD Danforth. Seems like there is something that is making teams hesitate here.
hazards of doing a live trade analysis without knowing the details. Jiricek did not want to go develop in the AHL and asked to be traded instead of going back to AHL. He needs to develop, but didn't want to. Wild have to keep him in NHL where he will be exposed early on. Not saying he will bomb, but David unnecessarily turned himself into a boom or bust prospect purely for his impatience.
I hope Guerin saw something in this kid that the Jackets did not. It will be interesting to see where he slots in. I can't imagine he goes down to Iowa with that price tag.
Steve needs to do his research first. Yes jiricek is young. Yes he can be sent down and would benefit. But jiricek was demanding he was nhl ready and said he did not want to be sent down.
The rumor out of Cleveland is that Jiricek wasn't listening to coaches, was cherry picking, lazy on the ice and just wanted to play offense. He thought he should be in Columbus, and only wanted to score goals in Cleveland, not improve on defense. So, sending him down to Cleveland wasn't helping.
They can temporarily disguise his bad defense/skating buy pairing him with someone like Brodin who is an excellent skater and is a great defensive defenseman. Dumba is a liability defensively, which is why the Wild didn't bring him back. Dumba played with Brodin, and Brodin bailed out Dumba so many times from his defensive blunders. I think the hope is that Andy Ness can help fix Jiricek's skating the same way he helped Rossi.
Let's give him a shot. A few years ago, nobody thought Joel Eriksson Ek (tall skinny guy) would go anywhere. Look at him now! Wouldn't trade him for anything!
